Hi, I am unable to understand USA policy. They are importing welding equipment from China. But they do not like China and her manufacturer goods.
Reply:Whats your point?People buy what they can afford.  Why do you have links to the Longevity site on your signature line? Are you spaming or trolling under a false name?Your writen English aint that good either.
Reply:It's actually a good question that I wish more Americans were asking because this country is better than becoming a nation of "would you like fries with that order" service people.  Long story short its not a question of people buying what they can afford its people wanting to buy things at a cheaper price and companies wanting to make it at a cheaper price.  If you put two tv's in front of 100 people both equal in size and capability but the one made in America has a price tag of $2k while the one made in China has a price tag of $1k 99 of those people will buy the Chinese made one because of the price.  Now that Chinese made one the workers who built it are making probably about $1 hour as compared to the US workers who are making about $15 hour to do the same work.  That Chinese tv will fail sooner than the US made tv because of the inferiority of the workmanship as well as the parts used in its construction and this is known because of many products that have been produced in China have been poorly to horribly produced due to the communist parties lack of quality control oversight of its countries manufacturers.  Something else to consider to in this is that those US workers will be better able to afford to purchase that very tv they made as compared to the Chinese ones.So knowing the basics you know that much and I do mean much of the blame falls on the shoulders of Joe public for wanting cheaper and cheaper products, theres a saying in the pay tv industry amongst satellite and cable tv installers that fits this well where the customer has the mindset of thinking everything is free because the commercial says its free or the sales person said standard installation is free yet Joe the paduka plumber wants 8 tv's wired up with cables hidden in all the walls on his slab built 5 bedroom ranch plus he wants high definition to all tv's and dvr service and wont pay for extra work.  Another area of blame is companies like Walmart who like to tow a line about how they care for their customers and are strong supporters of the community but this is the company that has made a fine art out of forcing its suppliers into dropping their prices to the extent that some have closed down US based manufacturing and moved production overseas such as a supplier who makes scissors that used to last for 20 years but when made in China with Chinese steel would break in a year or less.Further blame does go to the companies who site the high cost of labor in the US then move production facilities to second and third world countries but never drop the cost of the items they produce such as with Levi Strauss company which was a company that employed many Americans before it closed shop and moved production overseas, the loss of this and other textile producers effectively crippled much of the southeastern US.I could go on and on but I will leave it with these last few words. If we don't trade globally our economy would fail and we would end up like Cuba eventually so trade across borders is beneficial when done right.  Despite the loss of production to other countries America does produce a large portion of products still over what other countries make for us but if say China and Taiwan were to disappear in a 10.0 earthquake tomorrow the world economy would suffer drastically for 30 years before it could recover due to the amount of production thats done in those two countries alone.  And no matter how much anyone wants to say they buy only American made if you take a walk through their house and garage there are very few things %100 made in America there.  From the Chevy pickup to the flag pole with old glory flying in the front yard the majority of items have a small to %100 foreign made content and if you open the fridge the food has a considerable international fair with fruit and vegetables and beef coming from Canada, central and south America, Western Europe, the mediterranean, and seafood from Japan and China to name a few.
Reply:Your right! Its our want to have things sooner or now that drives a lot of people to buy cheaper stuff. ( or sometimes go into debit to get it )Company's have followed our want and provided a cheaper product.sometimes company's move production overseas to meet the cheap demand but sometimes at a cost. ( inferior product )Found many times that when production shifts overseas, the product just ain't the same anymore!Example....  When i was a youngster ( i still am), i used to buy Sidchrome tools which were made in Australia and were a fairly good product.  As time went on and production shifted overseas, the tools were not as good.  I could see the jaws of a open end spanner opening under load. Now i only buy Snap-On, but i still watch what i buy from them too.  A lot of Blue Point tools are manufactured overseas and sometime good company's such as Bahco ( they distribute Snap-On in New Zealand ) are commissioned by Snap-On to make things for them with the Snap-On name. (been caught a couple of times, often the non Snap-On is cheaper )But i suppose even Snap-On is trying to meet the need/greed of our want it now /cheaper people?Out of all the people i know, im probably the only one that likes to buy quality.  My friends say they don't need good stuff/im not a pro, but when they come to my house to help me out or do some of their own work because their tools are inadequate, they all comment on how much easier or a better job the tools made of it.It easy to keep going, but ill stop here.

Reply:If we keep going down the road we've been going down the last 20-30 years, the US won't be an independent, free nation anymore, sometime in the next few decades.  Hopefully some day we get leadership in our government who will take steps to reign in this problem and get us back to a healthy economic state.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:This has a really "all your base are belong to us" feel to it. I would like also to emphasize that we always want what's cheapest without regard to it's impact on our fellow Americans. Having said that, it's hard to argue for a "Hecho en Mexico" Dodge or Chevy relative to the USA made Toyota. I went to a dollar store the other day and was amazed at how many US made goods were there. Coca Cola glasses, little plastic containers, etc.Last edited by regularfella; 12-11-2009 at 05:10 PM.
