This is my first project, a simple welding cart.As you can see its going to be hard to kill the carpenter mentality I have!Tomorrow I will weld the plate and casters on, then I can start tricking it out Attached Images"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"However "lack of planning on my part may constitute an emergency on yours"
Reply:Careful welding the plate on. A couple of tacks is all it needs or it will distort.
Reply:Nice,  Tell us about your setup and specs of cart.
Reply:I see you have the Kramer pic.....thats hilariousHandler 140Miller Thunderbolt XL 225/150Dewalt Chop Saw and GrinderDelta Drill PressLP/O torchBig hammer, short fuse.
Reply:OK I've made some more progress with the cart. Its 26"x26"x18" not including the bottle area, and the mig is a 175plus. I am definitely going to get diff casters for this thing though(as you can tell the back ones are smaller, and it doesn't move around like I hoped) I just tacked them on so it will be easy enough to change. I still want to add a few things like a tool tray on top and a place for my grinding wheels and such.I just have to say I love this welding thing  I have spent way to much time with wood! Careful welding the plate on. A couple of tacks is all it needs or it will distort
Reply:Sorry for the double post but I have 2 more  Oh ya and the truck will be the first real project, I have 2 patches to do on it.By the way I didn't paint my garage that color, it came that way, honest! Reply:Got enough grinders?? you got two dewalts and a milwak??  hehecart looks good.  Looks like a nice lil place to work.  Good jobIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Nice, I just got a 175 as well and I like your cart.  Do you have anything to hold welder in place? Do you have or notice problems with it moving? Thats my biggest feer to push cart and have welder slide off lol.
Reply:thanks I worried about that building it but now it would be pretty hard to knock it off there. I thought about putting 2 bolts down through the feet on the mig but I will wait and see how it acts.  By the way I just posted to your thread about your gauges if you sell I would be interested, those are probably a bit better then the stock one.TxRedneck there is no such thing as 2 many   its funny you said that I just told my wife the other day I wanted to get 2 more(you know its a pain changing them around ) I have her all OK with it, until she sees your post lolLast edited by stumpster; 04-22-2006 at 09:00 PM."Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"However "lack of planning on my part may constitute an emergency on yours"
Reply:I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who takes the safety guard off my grinder!! Nice truck btw, reminds me of my first truck - '63 GMC, wish I still had it!Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!
Reply:Looks good,Stumpster. You have plenty of room on that. I have the cart that came with my Miller 175 and all I can say is it's adequate.                     MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Real nice cart! However, and I hate to be the one to break this to you but, It appears to me you have more than a couple patches to get that truck on the road.  My dads got a 64 4X4 chevy 1/2 ton I can't seem to get him to part with. He bought it brand new. It was the fanciest one they made at the time. It had a armrest on the drivers door and a sunvisor on the offdrivers side. Man what will they think of next! Times they have changed
Reply:I'm looking for al ate 60's 3/4ton 4x4 which I really really want to fix up.  Good luck with your project.
Reply:nice cartbut other thing drove my attention, in one of the photos there is a mitre saw in a stand, looked like folding legs it is commercial or home made?
Reply:Grinder guards? Mine didn't come with any! I have some tungsten spiked wheels (aggressive as a coon with rabies) for log work and when they get ya they shred, and I have scars to prove it.(guards don't fight with them on) aah its merely a flesh wound! It does have plenty of room and if I take my mig off  it fits my cutoff saw perfect, I have to get a welding table! The truck is actually pretty solid it was running great when I got it(traded it for my old climbing gear) Its a 65 C20, bed is solid corners are good it just needs some love!  I got it cause the wife wants it for her self, I am more a 50's guy!  I am going out of town for a week(shop withdrawal) to a seminar for work, when I get back it goes in the garage and I'll start sandblasting the frame  then I will have some questions on welding body parts.Penca that was a store bought for about $90 I think It does fold and would be simple to make I just didn't have the welder and really needed it for a barn I was building.  When I get back I could take some pics closeup like and give you dimensions if your interested.. I think I'm going to make something similar for my cutoff saw so I can set up outside the shop and keep the mess to a minimum! Thanks guys for the positives on the cart, I look at it and see 20 things I coulda shoulda done, I way over think things.Anyways off I go to NY  (in 7 hours) I look forward to all the info you guys post on this site that I will have to read when I get back."Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"However "lack of planning on my part may constitute an emergency on yours"
Reply:stumpster, yes i would be interested in pics and data. i need one of these stands but have little time to even sit and think, any pic or data will help a lot. thanks
Reply:I just got back from NY(yuck) I'll get u some pics and dimensions this weekend!"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"However "lack of planning on my part may constitute an emergency on yours"
Reply:hi stumpster! please don´t forget the pics of the sawstand
Reply:So sorry Penca, I completely forgot!  Here are some pics, if you need a better shot of any or a different angle let me know.As you can see its a simple design and though it seems under built It can hold a bit of weight, I used it to cut all my initial cuts on 4x4 100 year old reclaimed Douglas fir braces for a tendon and mortise barn I did!(not light stuff)The 2 top rails are 1 1/2" x 40" and they top out @ 35" they are angled with the legs. The legs are 1 1/4 x 35 1/2" and are angled (front to back) 20deg from plumb and 18deg (left and right) The extensions are also 1 1/4 so they just slip into the top rails, they are about 44"The brackets are aluminum and just work as a clamp, the crank is all thread that closes or opens the back wedge. It works OK and makes it quick for setup and removal. If you made multiple brackets then you could switch saws around pretty quick.Again I apologize for the "CRS" syndrome! Any how if ya need more info or picks please fell free to let me know I would be more than happy to help!
