It's been awhile since I have certified in plate. Could anyone help out? Just need setup, what rods are used for root pass, hot pass, and in this day and age are they using fillets for a cover or just a weave-cover pass. Also the settings per each pass. It's just a general plate certification test; nothing special. Thxs in advance to anyone who can help
Reply:A plate test could mean anything. A common one is the butt joint with a backing bar and one edge square and the opposite beveled. That way they can test a fillet weld in the corner and your filling in as a groove weld. Structural tests like this are done with E 7018. the first fillet is the most critical. You also have to do a stop and start in the middle of that bead. The stop start is one of the most common locations for a fail. Do you know if it is to AWS or ASME ??? |
