Reply:nice i like it!
Reply:this is the only weld I took a picture of during school. vertical up, with co2, .035 wire 3/8 plate Attached Images
Reply:looks good!
Reply:what was that welded with diver
Reply:Diverguy, I said it before and I will say it again, that is really nice. Go just a little bit faster and you will pull that little bit of sag out of the center, but again very nice for vertical....But the rules of the competition are mig I'm staying out so somebody else can win... I'm Pulling for you!!!
Reply:Make sure you look @ all of the pictures.. even the ones that are links!
Reply:i just had to sorry to bust up the party guys but this is the only place i can brag without people hating me these are some of my verticle welds on a pressure vessel using half inch pads.0.35 wire the other picture is the whole unit this is a tank built for a pup trailer.
Reply:Now.... THATS pretty!
Reply:Kelly, you do have some Bragging rights there. Very Nice, brings back the Good old days of the Yard.
Reply:guy-finnigan, I re-read the rules, All positions are allowed and all pictures should have details of which position and which wire typeMIG WELDS ONLY!One can only set the machine up for Mig to run flats, to run veritals and over head the machine must be set up totally different, so you might just take the hole "MIG WELDS ONLY" out of the rules, and we/you can Judge the welds as they show up, What do ya Think? Right Now Kelly is the best so far.. keep them coming guys, this is going to be some Fun.
Reply:Dang kelly,Those are too pretty for my taste. Are you really a weldor? Hands that steady, you should have been doing brain surgury. We still hate ya...but in a good way . Keep up the good work.Joke:a doctor's toilet overflows one morning before he goes to work. He calls a plumber who arrives promptly and in less that 10 minutes the toilet is clear. The plumber hands the doctor a $250 dollar bill. The doctor gasps and says,"damn, man I am a doctor and I don't make that kind of money." The plumber replies, "yeah, when I was a doctor I didn't make that kind of money either." Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:then just set it up for overhead.. it's still mig right?
Reply:Thanks for the compliments guys its nice to hear once in a while i still have alot to learn though ,im not a know it all kind of person one who knows it all must be pretty close to dying in my books and i also believe there are no stupid questions it may sound stupid to the person you ask but that person probably has more knowledge in that area, kind of like the young buck asked me the other day can you weld aluminum to mild steel ? i didnt luagh at him i explianed the reasons why now he knows.Anyways all my welds look pretty much the same as my verticle i lay some mean flat, multi pass,up down all around welds for the vertical in the pictures i ran about 20.8 volts and about 20 1/8 amps most people i know use the zig zag pattern which i dont like it looks like your just washing over what you just layed down i use a circular motion always reaching for fresh meterial if i get a chance ill post some more pics of the front end i just did last week the front cylender or ram in the picture i last posted is a toothpick compiared to the massive one i just did ill get some shots from different angles but this set of welds has been polished off with a wire wheel if i knew about this competition i wouldnt have buffed.see ya soon K
Reply:just re reading my post my amps were not correct i set my amps at 4 1/8 not 20/1/8
Reply:Kelly, those beads were nice. Very nice and neat.Well, I have a thick skin. Might as well throw one or two out. Here is a flux core one. It is Lincoln NR212MP .045 on 3/8 steel single pass. Machine was a Miller 8VS feeder off of a Bobcat 225G set at 205a CC. Attached Images

Reply:Oops, that was a cleaned up one..oh well. You gotta clean up those. Ok, here is a legal one. .030 ER70S-6 on 1/4" steel in flat position. Machine was a MM210 set at 7/80. Attached Images
Reply:Hmmmm....not sure about the settings on the last one. They may have been door chart settings for 1/4.Here is one I know was 7/80. Still 1/4 steel, flat posit & .030 70S-6. Attached Images
Reply:Both very nice welds i like the first one better but both very nice and professional looking
Reply:Kelly Just to clear some settings up, a true Mig is run with a 95/5 mix the puddle will be a lot hotter and you will never be able to go from flat to vertical with that setting. Now for just setting the machine up for migging some thin material, yes you can set the machine up running some 75/25 mix and lay down some nice looking welds flat or over head or even vertical, with just changing the wire speed and amps, but have you ever tried to run a vertical or a over head butt weld running 95/5 gas, it just ain't going to be pretty...
Reply:i got some new pictures today ..i thought id hang back and see what everyone else layed down but im here now so i might as well post a couple i sure am looking forward to see other peoples work theres been like four hundered views and only a handfull of pictures? anyways on with the bling these are pictures of some of my flat triples, overhead triples and all around triples the three pictures of the nozzle going through the tank is called the bearing box it is then attached to an agitator ,a shaft with paddles that keeps drilling mud from seperating from the water and solidifieing on the bottom of the tank just so you know what your looking at, all these welds are inspected by the broiler branch then hydro tested to 45 psi only the first tank i built was x rayed and that was for qualifying our shop to weld pressure vessels they only x ray if you mess up havent had to yet some 50 or more tanks later. ENJOY!OH YA the flat and over head passes were done in one weld from top side to bottom side one start one stop for all passes i ran my miller deltaweld 302 at 22.5 v and 4.5 amps using 0.35 wire.the bearing box is by far the hardest weld to perform in our shop due to the limited space to weld the box in also it doesnt look like it but my stop starts are staggerd on the outside of the bearing box i lay one full one down then start about an inch back from where i started so the starts are never started in the same place the feathering of the starts gives it the apperence they were started in the same place on this one.Last edited by KELLY; 08-17-2005 at 10:17 PM.
Reply:you guys are a bunch of showoffs. those welds are insane. I lay down beads like that all the time, every night, in my dreams.I'm not a Engineer, I just play one on the weekend.KELLY, that is some really sweet stuff. You got skills, man, no doubt!
Reply:Kelly that is insane im 14 and i hope sometime i can lay a bead like that.
Reply:Ok heres what pics I have. As far as my best I dont think I'll ever see it I allways find something wrong with my welds. I guess you could I am in a endless search for the perfect weld. Anyway images 1 - 5 are 1/4" aluminum flat welded with 5356 3/64 wire. For what its worth Attached Images
Reply:A few more. The first two aluminum flat welds 1/4" with 3/64 wire. Chassis pic are H beam with 1/2" flange X 3/8" web main beam with T extrusion cross members same flange thickness with 1/2" gussets. Butt welded flat 5356 alloy 1/16" wire. Reply:"I have used 98% argon 2% oxygen mix, 75% argon 25% C02 and even 100% C02 to weld mild steel. It's all mig by definition. I have used all three gas mixes in all positions. And that was still mig also. Just wondering why you think this is not to be considered to be mig welding. "well lets see it..... can ya mig that Alum vertical? Kelly you are still in the lead.......running wire and havin' a finished product, But Little John is workin his butt off trying to work the sho-sho out if me to give him something to weld, you guys are in Trouble
Reply:Robin the reason of my post was not to brag just to make the point about taking mig only out of the competition. I will get some pics of aluminum uphill and in the next couple of weeks I will try to get some pics of steel also. I guess I dont know because I am new but who is little john? Your son maybe? At any rate I look forward to the other posts here.

Reply:Looks purty dern good. Looks like you got him up to production speed. Do you hire him out? If so, do you give him a share of the profits?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:Very nice little john! keep up the good work. I remember my welds when I was 15 and as I remember they looked bad. But they where with jet rod and they shoved a handfull of rods at me and pointed at the the machine and said weld! Great job again Little John.
Reply:1/4" angle 75/25 035 there not the most pretty but im proud of them. Attached Images
Reply:OK Ladies and Gentleman, I am very Proud of Little Johns welding, Im just blown away at how this kid hung in there with the hole project, it was a lot of work and he never complained once about the heat. Little John has made over 300 welds on this job. The leads in the picture are for a new pile driving Rig, This thing is going to catch some abuse, after a few practice welds I just turned him lose. All of the welds are nice in uniform, They were just Flat and Horizontals, but he is working on the Verticals and making good progress.Little John have a nice weekend, and will see you Monday at the shop... Attached Images
Reply:KellyAre those welds done by hand or did you just set the settings and let a machine do the motions for you?
Reply:All my welds were manipulated by hand did anyone check out my custom window frames?i see alot have looked but no replys
Reply:Kelly, The windows are nice.. get back to work. The girls moves are nice too...
Reply:The girl moving in the icon is Alizee, a french pop star. There's a video floating around with her in it that's pretty impressive to look at, not much to hear, though. The way she moves is hypnotic. The name of the song is 'Jen Ai Marre'.-Heath
Reply:HHHEEEEYYYYYY, I feel cheated!!! Kelly's girl is not moving for me,(sniffle)whats up?
Reply:all mine look like this.... Attached Images
