Hello again everyone. You all look like your enjoying all the new projects everyone has posted so I figured it was time to bore the heck out of you all again by showing you all another one of my strange fabrications/ modifications/ customizations thingies that I did a few years ago. This gas pump started out it's life pumping fuel back in 1958 in the town I live in. I purchased the thing three years ago and while I was tearing it down I had a vision of a TV in it. I started out by doing some major mods on the thing and it ended up with the TV, a three disc DVD and a VCR in it. It was allot of work just trying to get the right components to fit in there but it all worked out in the end. I did all the paint and graphics. I also had to make a filler plate where the large glass window was in the front to make it look right. Wanting to show you all something a little different I added a video of the thing working. I promise you that the picture is much better than it seems but I had to reduce the quality on the camera to fit it all in. This thing really makes a great conversation piece. A friend asked me why and the only answer I could give is "Why not". With the price of gas where it is these days I sing each time I fill up but it sounds much different than what's on this video.  Hope you all like what I've done and thanks for looking. Reply:My only question is, why would you paint it and give it logo's for something it was not part of.  Let it have it's hertage and keep the Gas pump name.Just my two cents. On a lighter side.  Looks great, and nice to see what others mind think when they see something.

Reply:Fantastic!!!   Obviously you are someone with a very active imagination.    I do wonder where you find all this stuff.     Also I do love the CokeCola themes but I'm thnking this may be a bit overboard for a gas pump.     Unless of course you have that hose hooked up to a bulk supply of Coke.    I'm a big Coke fan myself drinking the stuff every day morning to night ntil my doctor got on me about the caffiene.    Unforutnately not a big collector but everyonce in a while find something that I like.     I sometimes wonder if the marketing has damaged my brain.By the way keep things & pis coming, it looks like you have a room full of stuff there.Dave

Reply:So you guys have coca cola over there, too?Re: the restoration vs modification debate. Years a ago I lived in a street and I used to walk past a young guy everyday who was restoring a Holden Gemini. Now, a Holden Gemini is a very ordinary car. Think Toyota Corolla. I thought at first he going to modify it, but nope, he was restoring it.After about a year I stopped one day and said: "you know when you've finished, all you're going to end up with is a Holden Gemini?" He nodded slowly and smiled. I walked on.Scott
Reply:OK, I think my comment was misunderstood.  I agree with the restore Vs. Mod debate. I have that same problem with two motorcycles I have.  One is a 75 Goldwing( 1st year goldwings were produced), the other is just a XJ650.   My concern was changing it from a Gas Pump to a Coke Machine.  I think the Mod into a entertainment center was pure genius. I was concerned that the mod. could have be done but left the history of the material it was made from.I hope this makes sense.
Reply:Partagas,I think what you said makes good sense...why not make a gas pump entertainment center, instead of a coke pump(?!) entertainment center, right?...I was just adding another point of view.  I guess my example didn't exactly mesh up with the point you made thought, did it?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:just a XJ650
