Here's a little project I worked on last week.  The material is 5052 aluminum, and is 0.020" thick.  The welds are @ 0.040"/0.060" wide, with full penetration on a T-butt configuration.  The center piece was roll formed, and the end caps were stamped.  Sorry the pictures are so fuzzy, it's difficult to take close-ups on small parts.  Kind of a challenge jigging them, closing up the gaps so as not to burn through was the hardest part. Reply:very nice!keep it up......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Haven´t weld aluminum, but I think that due to the thickness of the aluminum you welded it must have been very hard. Nice work.
Reply:It was a little difficult, but to tell you the truth, I cheated some.  Here are the parameters I used:Voltage - 125,000 volts d.c.s.p.Amperage - 1.4 milliampsTungsten prep - flatTungsten to workpiece standoff - 5 feetShielding gas - vacuumSpeed - 30 inches per minuteFiller metal - noneI did them with an electron beam welder I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:Has anyone seen my electron beam welder?  I know I left it around here somewhere. Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:LOl.....at least we got some honest people in here =)
Reply:Electron beam welding is just textbook stuff for me...I have never even laid eyes on one of those.  It could be as big as a barn or as small as an altoids tin and I would probably not even recognize it if I saw one.  I am just glad there is someone around here that has access to one, if for no other reason than to prove they actually exist in the real world.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Mine are about the size of a minivan, although they run the gamut from the size of a refrigerator to big enough to park a minivan in.  The nice thing about them is that if it metallurgically CAN be welded, the E.B.'s can weld them.  Some interesting things I've done, stainless to titanium, stainless to copper, tungsten to tantalum (that was a challenge!)  That's the upside.Downside - costI r 2 a perfessional
Reply:betcha Harbor Freight don't carry them !!
Reply:They are on sale right now, with free shipping ($49.95)...They also come with a free starter bag of electrons.  Please allow 4-6 years for delivery.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:The problem with HF is that once you use that starter bag of electrons you will pay hell getting replacements. They are all on backorder from Taiwan and I can tell you that those Tai people are in no big hurry to get rid of the last remaining electrons they have left. And to be honest, Tai electrons are not the best you can get. There were some on ebay that were actually made in England, but they charge a ROYAL amount of money for those ones and for some reason those electrons are always on the wrong side of the beam. You can never break them of it. You can get some really great electrons that work very hard in Korea, but I heard Kathy Lee Gifford had all the young ones tied up in her factory. What can I say....you gotta wait till the price comes down and we can manufacture them locally.  Sorry.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Korean sweatshop electrons!?!?  I never knew that.  I guess I will have to boycott all electrons until I can ascertain their origin.  Maybe we can get itsy-bitsy lables for them....Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:You all know how electronic devices run on smoke?  Seriously, whenever you see the smoke leak out of any electronic device, it no longer seems to work???  (That's when we sneak in and steal all the unused electrons.  Muhahahahah!!!)I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:Heres for those of you that think electron welding is out of reach.http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTRON-BEAM-WE...QQcmdZViewItemLMAO. I was just surfing ebay and ran across this and thought it would fit. Not to offend anybody.Brett B & B Fabrication and Welding Inc.Spalding, MI.
Reply:I'm looking for one with a spool gun and an electron counter?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Geez Brett, I ran one of those for 4 years, but that was just after electrons were invented......That brought back some memories, thanks.....I r 2 a perfessional

Reply:Smithboy, who sells one without an electron counter. Sheesh, what good is it if you don't know how many electrons you are using or how many you have left? Seriously dude, start thinking about your posts! LOL.
