does 304 weld coupon qualify you for 316 also? since its both p8 material
Reply:I believe it does because you have not changed the P number as stated in "QW-416" "Essential variables for weldor Performance". When dealing with procedures the base metal P-Number is an essential variable and you have not changed that either. In what I have seen you should be within the specification standards.Weldor/ Certified Inspector
Reply:Actually, depending on process, you do not even need to run stainless filler metal. If the welder is certified on carbon steel with GTAW, FCAW or GMAW Spray or Pulse spray, also qualifies the welder for stainless.
Reply:weldinglifer is correct. From a WPQ standpoint, the F number classification is often the same as it is for carbon steel filler materials. SMAW is the process that will usually get you on the larger job sites, so the employers will have you run a GTAW root and hot with 309 wire and then fill and cap with a 309 SMAW electrode on a carbon steel base material. Saves them a LOT of money in test coupons. |
