Hi everyone. I have lurked for a while but finally have a reason to sign up now. I have an old Lincoln 225 Stick Welder Buzz Box that has been sitting around the shop I want to get rid of. I am not terribly familiar with these as I have never had a reason to use it. The big question though is what is that apparatus on the back of it that the "Plus" and "Minus"  sign on them with the white cords coming off it? It does not look like that was originally part of the unit, and what I am wondering is what would you retrofit one of these to do as it looks like my uncle tried to do? I circled in black the 2 white cables so you can follow them as well as the big piece that was screwed into the back at a later date. Can anyone make sense of what my uncle would have been trying to do with the machine based on the way the wires are run? He is not around to ask, but I am just curious if anyone can make heads or tales of this for me as I would like to be able to tell someone what they are buying and what it can do. Here are a bunch of pictures of the back so if anyone can offer any suggestions based on how the thing is rigged up I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Reply:Your uncle made an output rectifier to allow welding DC in addition to the units standard AC.  The Lincoln 'buzz box' is available as an AC/DC from the factory but many (as with your uncles) are just AC.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:DCEP, stinger to the plus +, ground to nagative-, reverse polarity. DCEN, ground to the plus -, stinger to negative, straight polarity. DC LH 7018 and 6010 (5P) both work best DCEP. Looking at connecting leads on the back here. Looking at connecting leads on the front, AC 7018 and 6011 work best there, with this machine, There are other rods that will work DCEN on the back, and with AC on the front. I'm using the rods I'm most familiar with as an explanation for what your machine is set up for, to my way of thinking, and w/o photo of the front connections. Other people can maybe make it simpler to understand??Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
