Have any of you guys used Mule Tape or let me know what you have used it for.KraftymateGO NOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I think you meant NEPTCO.  I had to look it up, as around here we call it True Tape, as Greenlee is the common brand.  Where are you from?  (Now you see why having your location in your profile is helpful to the rest of us...)Yes, I use it all the time.  After running a complicated or frequently bending conduit path, you use your fish tape (or air pressure) to pull in your True Tape (or a string and then your True Tape.)  The difference in the numbers on the True Tape give you the length of the run.  Add the appropriate amounts for boxes and bends and then you know exactly how much cable to buy or cut.  You then use the True Tape as your pull string to pull in the cables. Here's the one you are referring to: http://www.neptco.com/website/neptco...6?OpenDocument
Reply:I has about eighteen hundred pounds of strength.  I can get literally thousands of feet of it from pulls where they're pulling fiber optic cables.I've used it for everything up to and including a fan belt one time in an emergency. It's handier than a pocket on pants to have around for tie downs etc.  Tuff Stuff!!life is good
Reply:I used some 2500 pound stuff once to get my RC plane out of a tree. Tied it to an arrow and shot it over a limb with my 80#Kodiak Mag. compound.Chained a come-a-long to a tree, tied the tape in a loop, pulled till the branch broke.60' up.Took 2 days. Got my plane.
Reply:We use it off and on. We can get it as a very light (flat) string for blowing in or up into the nylon rope (again flat) category like the guys here mentioned for pulling.  I try to keep some of the nylon pulling rope around for sacrifice jobs. The sequential numbers are really the redeming feature. You know what you need, wire wise, before you start and you know where you're at when pulling.I want to add that I really wouldn't know If I've used this NEPTCO brand or not. I don't really spend a lot of time memorizing such things for some reason. If it fails then I'd remember. The nick name Mule Tape is an old one for sure. About like saying 'skill saw' instead of circular saw.Last edited by Sandy; 09-07-2006 at 11:38 PM.
Reply:I worked for a company that pulled alot of fiber in between manholes and through conduit and the stuff we used was called Mule Tape with a 1800 lb rating made of some type of woven cloth. There was another one made by Mule Tape as well that was 900 lb rating and made out of Kevlar and then coated with something that made it kind of shiney but didnt work as well as the cloth style. It is very handy to have around though.
Reply:I work for Qw**t Communications. We use it to pull our fiber through the conduit. I used some of it at home when I ran my sub panel for my garage. It does a good job. One word of caution, it WILL cut through schedule 80 PVC conduit on a 90 when you pull long runs or have a tough pull. I learned a trick from one of our contractors. He would always pour concrete at the 90s. I asked him why one day. He told me it was so he never had to dig up a job to replace a burned 90 PVC. I never saw him dig one up....so, you know. The other thing is that we use the mule tape once and discard it. Having pulled on it once didn't warrant using it again and risking it breaking in the middle of another pull.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
