I am making some square rings out of 1/4 stainless round bar and need to weld the ends together all I have is a flux core wire welder can this be done with flux core if so what wire can I use so it does not rust when exposed to salt waterThank You
Reply:I think you need argon and stainless wire, I haven't seen flux core stainless mig wire.
Reply:Fluxcore in stainless steel...hmmm.....Check the Lincoln Electric Website for stainless flux core wire.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/produ...-selection.aspGet the 316 grade!!!!City of L.A. Reply:There are several good gas shielded flux cored are welding choices that are designed to be used with CO2 and Ar/ CO2 mixes. That is not the case if you are looking for a self shielded flux cored stainless. They are available, I would start with Lincoln, but what I have observed, no one has even come close to the gas shielded quality.
Reply:Skipper, only Giligan would use flux core for your stainless ring. The professor would use electron beam or laser, but that would be overkill. Ginger might suggest silver brazing, but I'd go with the only pratical one on the island, that's Maryanne, and she would TIG weld it.
Reply:If you have to change out the wire? why not go to solid wire and run it as MIG. I've never used FCAW Ss wire so I don't know how it runs, but GMAW stainless isn't too bad.
