Reply:Is this printed on the jacket of the welding leads themselves?
Reply:Welding cables are usually measured in gauge (thickness).#6, #4, #2, #1, 0/0, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, from thinner to thicker.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Hank, are you in the states? Most single conductor cables are labeled as DesertRider said above. Now, if you are talking about the cables that plug into an outlet and power your welder, these are usually S/O cables. The one I purchased for my welder was a 4/3 which is a 4awg, 3 wire cable, two hots and a ground. I have to admit I don't know the meaning of what you have there. I may have to go google it now!As an afterthought, I don't know how they label cables if they are stranded really fine, like some of the 350MCM or 750MCM cable that I have used, as opposed to some same size cables that have few strands and are beefy as heck to bend. I will keep an eye on this thread and maybe learn something new!Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Maybe those are scrambled NEMA plug numbers?
Reply:10-25, 35-50 refer to the actual connector being used on the cablehttp://www.binzel.com/content.asp?mnu=60&lng=31Synchowave 180SD  Bernard 3500SS water coolerMillermatic 200Parker Plasma Tec 40dvOperating Engineers Local 12
Reply:Bruce, NICE ONE!I googled it and came up empty. Did you know the answer or did you find it? If you found it...what did you use in your search? Thanks for giving us all the answer!!!!Hey and I learned something new!Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:Yes I saw these numbers when I was looking at welding cable plugs (Dinse plugs), I thought they are related with cable size/configuration. Any way, what do they mean? I know 10-25 is rated to 200 amp and 35-50 is 380 amp.Last edited by HankC1; 02-06-2010 at 08:10 PM.
Reply:10-25  refers to the diameter of the cable Attached ImagesSynchowave 180SD  Bernard 3500SS water coolerMillermatic 200Parker Plasma Tec 40dvOperating Engineers Local 12
Reply:I have also seen these #'s used on dinse connectores, there is a 10-25 on my tig torch. SQUARE WAVE 175 TIG   DUAL MIG 151
Reply:These numbers are not exactly diameter related. They're metric and tell the range of the appropriate cable size for the given dinse connector in square millimetres (copper cross section). Especially with the 13mm connectors you can have versions carrying different numbers. Since the cable is hold in place by a grub screw, the bore in the brass part which takes the cable must match the cable within reasonable limits. Otherwise the cable wouldn't fit or - if the connector is too big - the screw would damage the cable instead of providing a good contact.Of course the rubber part of the connector has different inner diameters according to its cable range as well. The tail end usually has different cut-as-needed steps to fit the cable.Last edited by chevyman_de; 02-15-2010 at 10:10 AM.
Reply:yup.. in laments terms.. it's the size(type) of connector that the salesman will look up when you tell him what size lead you're using and what the maximum number of amps it'll be connected to..if you're not livin on the edge, you're takin up too much room..
Reply:Basically, yes. But there are only three sizes of dinse connectors with the following pin diameters: 9/13/15 mm, just 4 different cable bore diameters for the medium size. Btw., 15mm is 95-120 mm² and not very common.
