Fuel Storage Tank

I am thinking about TIG welding a new fuel storage tank from some steel plate. I haven't seen any articles on this subject, nor have I been able to find any vendors of accessories such as fuel caps, drains, etc.Does anyone have any good info on this subject or know of any good suppliers of accessories like you can get on ConVaults, etc?

Reply:I worked on a couple of transfer tanks and job site fuel storage tanks and so on. I'm not sure just what sort of accesories you are looking for.I've gotten fill/vent caps from tractor supply. They use the standard 2" NPT thread.http://www.tractorsupply.com/vehicle...nt-cap-0828212I've also gotten locking fill caps, stationary vents, manual fuel gauges, whistle stops from plumbing supply houses for use on home heating oil tanks. They also sell the pipe dope thats rated for use with gasoline or diesel fuel. Regular teflon tape or dope won't stand up to fuel and you will get leaks.If you are looking for pumps, hose, fuel nozels, and meters, water seperators, and fuel filters, Northern tool, Tractor Supply and others have all that stuff.If you hunt a bit you can find weld on pipe fittings in most sizes. MSC, Graingers and others sell them.  I've used the machined 2" couplings cut in half in a pinch, but usually I've got a friend with a machine shop who will just cut me what I need on his lathe from some scrap solid material at his shop. I'd rather toss him the work when posible if I don't need something ASAP..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
