I like to better things I buy so when I bought my Diesel truck I decided to put a better Fuel Filter in it.  I made a secondary pre-OEM filter.  The filter used is the replacment part for a CAT engine and does 2 micron filtration.  Heres a pic:by the way the angle makes it look crooked, and it is not welded to the frame, I bolted it using existing bolts.  Thats 1/4" plate Flux Welded to make a 90 degree angle to shield filter against rocks and crap.and here is my Truck(Silverado 07' Classic 2500HD 4x4 with Duramax/Allison Combo):
Reply:With purity like that the fuel should be good enough to drink.  :-)Thanks for posting... a good idea for me to keep filed for the future.
Reply:better be sure that everyday hose clamps will put up with 80 or so psi pressure in the fuel system...there is a reason they are "hard lined" to the injector rail ya know... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:thats not a bad idea you have there,, and if you just carry a little bit of hose and a few clamps and that does explode you can fix it in a hurry so you can at least get home
Reply:ya, not hard to do, I would just bypass all that and connect the two cut hard lines together.
Reply:Be careful of braided lines. Diesel may attack the rubber liner inside them. Might want to stick to all steel lines.  T.J.
Reply:Doesn't that engine have another pump close to or in the motor to boost the pressure up I think that filter is in the low presure circuit. I would have to call one of my buddies on that one. Will   Supports Autism Awareness                            My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .
Reply:Well lots of Duramax owners have done this mod and there havent been complaints.  A lot of them even do sled pulls using a setup like this so fuel delivery is not a problem.  I think the main Fuel pump is in the Tank.  a CP3. which is good for up to 500HP so I'm not worried.
Reply:The image did not come up for the filter mount, but assuming it is before the manufacturers filter assembly, you are dealing with relatively low pressures (ie. under 100psi), since the hand pump on the factory filter housing is only meant to prime the system on the order of 10 to 20 psi.  The reason I say 100psi is relatively low pressure, is because those steel lines at the injectors on the HIGH pressure side contain 25,000 -26,000 psi under W.O.T. conditions.  Could not find the specs. quickly for what the low pressure side is meant to contain, will have look it up further to give you a better answer. Assume 100 psi, which is high for the low side, and you should be safe.
Reply:Just looked it up further, actually, the fuel supply lines operate under a vacuum condition provided by the fuel injection pump. So really your main concern for the hoses are that there are no air leaks into the lines, which is then like trying to drink from a straw with a small hole in the side. Should have looked at the layout of the system better before my previous post, as I am MUCH more familiar with gas engines than diesel. Damn, now I have something else on my list of things to learn more about.
Reply:Along those same lines....let me jump in. I had to replace the tank selector switch on BOTH my diesels with dual tanks. When you buy the replacement, it clearly says that the warranty is void if fuel is not filtered BEFORE the switch. Yet, chevrolet never installed a filter inline before these switches. I had to install two disposable steel filters inline. I have not since had to replace the switch. Simple 2 dollar fix would have saved my 100 dollar selector switch. Live and learn. Like they couldn't install that as original? I know multiply that 2 bucks across 10 million trucks and it adds up...but they make you pay for every penny and then some when you buy the truck....so that's a lame argument, I say.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Yes, my bad.  The Fuel pump is not in the tank.  I keep thinking back to my gas days.  I'm still going to go in and make hard lines for that.  I don't like those hoses.
Reply:I fixed it up a bit.
Reply:looks good... wheres the other 2 bolts in the crossmember?  ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Those were there from factory.  That crossmember is welded all the way top and bottom.  Those bolts are probably for something that mounts there for other vehicle applications.
