Newbie question - I got myself a used 110v Millermatic 135 and plan to use it for a car restoration. The Miller manual warns about interference caused by arc welding: "Locate welding operation 100 meters from any sensitive electronic equipment". I was planning on welding inside my garage where also the inverter for the solar PV panels is located. The garage is adjacent to the kitchen which has various electronic equipment (microwave, oven, built in coffee maker, etc). What do they mean by 'sensitive electrontic equipment' should I worry about the listed items? Thanks. JD.
Reply:I am no pro, but I am pretty sure you don't have to worry about the air waves. It is mainly for connecting your ground. You don't want any electrical equipment between your ground and place of weld. Example: If I was going to weld on my truck bumper I would disconnect the batteries and clip the ground as near to my weld area as possible. You don't want the voltage from welder running thru any electronics..
Reply:I wouldn't plug it in to the same outlet as my computer either. My name's not Jim.... |
