Has anyone built a wall bed without a kit? The kits seem too expensive to me as you can probably build it for a lot less. I'm going to attempt it very soon, just looking for any ideas or advice. Thanks.
Reply:I made two twin size about 10 years ago (sorry, no pictures). Because the beds were fairly light (mattresses only, no separate box springs), I opted to fore-go lift springs. To assist in lowering each bed, I used 4 screen door dampers mounted between the bottom of the wall frame, and the underside of the mattress frame. The position of the dampers was such that they were fully compressed when the bed was down, and fully extended when the bed was stored away. My design used bi-fold doors to conceal the beds when stowed and had a folding leg at the foot of the bed that extended as the beds were lowered. There are no small projects
Reply:Was the frame all wood, or a combination of wood/metal. Just looking for an excuse to use my welder on this project. Thanks for the reply.
