Concerns on new machine.

Recently I purchased a used Lincoln Weldanpower225 on a trailer. It seems to be a very nice machine. I want to place my Oxy/Ac tanks on it. My concern is that the welder runs on gas. I am so afraid of a spark getting to the gas tank. Is this normal?Also, what angle can I place my tanks at?
Reply:lingarner you should not worry to much about sparks.  most of the time you should be working far enough away where sparks wont be an issue.  Tanks should be standing vertical all the time but a slight angle would not hurt.  I have my tanks angled and i have never had a problem.  Acetylne is the tank that should be standing vertical, because there is the possibility that the acetone will leak out, when that happens you could get acetylne coming out in a liquid state which is very dangerous.

Reply:Don't know the chemistry of it all,Zap,but I think the acetone and porous filler in the tank absorb the acetylene under pressure.
