I have here a turbo manifold with a busted weld. It's 300 series stainless and I've got conflicting reports of whether it is 304 or 321. Is there any easy way to tell?
Reply:between austenitic grades... Very hard to tell. If it's a turbo manifold I would be surprised if its 321, more expensive and it won't be netting you anything better corrosion wise. I would weld it up with a filler compatible with both and call it a day.pick a low carbon filler 308L would be my choice and you should be okay.
Reply:Easy with one of these:http://www.quickshotxrf.com/steel-grade-pmiOtherwise, no simple test.Like Metarinka says, you'll probably be fine using 308L no matter if it is 304, 316, 321, 347, etc.
Reply:if it's gonna heat up and cool down alot (expand and contract), i would go with a 309..if you're not livin on the edge, you're takin up too much room.. |
