Reply:soo.... just for clairification what is "about 25.00/ft drive out price for the customer"where did that number come from, and what is it's meaning..??
Reply:He need 2300ft of pipe to build a fence that is 550 ft long. So if he can do it for $25/ft for the customer he would charge the customer $13,750.Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American G. I. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Reply:Are you going to notch or pinch the pipe/tubing.  If you notching, then your price is way too low. Unlike the ornamental stuff where you gang cut much fo the material, pipe is first cut then notched (regardless of notching method).  You can gang cut the first time but each notches are made to each individual end.  Seem like you might have 71 post to notch, 140 horizontal post to notch that 280 notches, assuming the top runs pipes continuously.  Straightening the pipe also must be factored- it is not unusual to get a hump in the top rail over each post.     What is your price for removal of the fence?  Have you considered purchasing fencing? Will you fab onsite or at your shop? Pipe is not a big deal to work with, though you will spend time fabricating it--Don't underestimate the time.Break it down and look at fabrication/time, fence removal, leveling and help. You can do it for 25/ft, though by the time your are finished you may wish you bid 50/ft.  50/ft is not out of line.
Reply:thanks for the replyyou are right on, on the number of posts and railsthe old fence was only notched on the post tops for the top rail ,which is continuous, and thats how the cust wants it built. i would have preferred to notch but...we added 1000.00 for removal of old fence, half of it is on the ground in pieces because of the truck that hit itwe are planning to cut the pipe in the shop to save timewe did bread it down as you suggested however i believe we may have underestimated time slightly.thanks for your thoughtssteveBTS Welding
