does anubody have pics of drop axles they have made. i need to build a trailer that the bed is 6 to 8 inches off the ground while its still hooked up the truck. im new at this. how do mount the wheel hubs on a homemade drop axle? or maybe a trailer that the bed lowers all the way to the ground.thanksjdw
Reply:That's pretty low...Not much room for error there. I think you'll be hitting pavement, curbs, scraping up turf, etc.. Are you sure you want to be that close to the ground? 4" drop axles are available. Much more drop than this and it would have to be Very beefy to be strong enough.
Reply:thanks for all the replies
Reply:we built a car trailer that was pretty low at one time..we used front spindles from a '70 mustang..bolted the spindles to a 3/8 flat plate and then added the axle..but you need to fab up gussetts..worked well for 5 yrs..and then along came the inclosed race trailer......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:but you also have to take into consideration what size rim/tire combo you're going to use.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. |
