Attached is a rough sketch of a boat dock I am going to build. The dimensions will change from this original.  The slip length will be reduced by one foot and the front increased by one foot in width. The overall footprint will remain the same by USACE Regulations. Here is my question:The regs require anchoring of a dock by the use of cables and/or spud poles.  I am fully familiar with how to attach a spud pole to the dock itself, but what is on the other end of a spud pole and how do you sink it in the riverbed itself?  Is there a pre-fab auger of sorts, or is it driven directly into the mud?

Reply:spud poles are driven in with a pile driver or using high pressure water hooked into a pipe, it washes the dirt out from under it. the drawback is that the pole has to be standing up. as the dirt is blown out, the pole will sink down."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:well i live and run a boat dock/marina on cherokee lake. we have built about 500 feet of steel /concrete floating walkway which is all anchored by stainless cables. there are several websites which offer 2:1 gear ratio hand crank winches which will spool 1/4 through 3/8 cable easily. call your local concrete company and ask about anchors. ours offers 1 or 2 ton anchors which already have an eye to attach the cable to. hook that dude to your winch and drop them in the lake. if you would rather go with the poles the dock cannot be moved. ask me if that is the route you would rather take.
Reply:Few Questions, what Part Of The States? Approx. How Deep Is The Water? Is It Commercial Or Residental? Is The Bottom Sand Or Mud? How Are You Going To Get On And Off The Dock, Planks Or Metal Walkway Or? You Mentioned Riverbed,is There A Lot Of Current And How Much Does The River Depth Change Throughout The Year? If It Is A Floating Dock, what Do You Plan To Use For Flotation?
