Welding jobs in TX

OK guys/gals im leaving my home town of clemson sc to move to SA texas in a couple months. im currently in school doing some welding and plan to finish up there, so my question is, are there any jobs in that area and what may i expect to be doing or start out making there? If no one is near that area then just answer in general, like what is the average pay for skilled welders?Thanks for any help!
Reply:hey i live in tx it just depends on what what you do lets say if you work at a small shop you might not make much i work for a coal mine a few hours away and make around 70gs ayear and only work 14 days a month but it is shift work so again it just depends on the job hope this helps you outsa200 mo heat mo rod mo money

Reply:There are jobs floating around, but they are far and few right now.  Just got back from Midland where I grew up and if you weren't willing to work for 25 an hour as a rig welder or had an uncle you aren't going to work.  Oh and speak spanish.Run it HOT!!!!JW64 Red Face74 Big 40
Reply:thanks for the reply's. And i know around here there are places like GE that pay pretty good, and there are the nuke plants that pay upwards around 30 an hr. Anything like this in the TX area? or more specifically san antonio area?
Reply:Im just wondering more on what type of jobs i will expect and how much i can make? whether it may be some smaller fab shop or a big plant somewhere? Not real sure what all "big plants or business" pay good money for welders.Thanks too anyone who can help

Reply:I wish I could help you more with the city jobs around SA.  Are you rig welder or working single hand. I would bet that right now would be a good time to look at the plumbing companies in the area.  There is a lot of government money floating through the state and schools and cities are getting a big chunk of it.  It is burning a hole in their pockets so that is where I would look.  I just got done working for a plumbing company on a project doing gas lines for a science lab. wasn't hourly pay or anything, got paid by the foot. but was doing about 2500 a week after I got the hang of it.  But now the project is over and I'm looking for the next one.
