Are there any CWI on the site?

My work is going to pay for me to take the test in the fall. It will be in D15 though. I was wanting to know if anyone found any good study guides or any prep classes. The CWE at work was saying he heard the AWS classes weren't worth the money. So if anyone has any suggestions besides memorize the book lol, it would be appreciated.
Reply:I hope to be getting confirmation that I am soon!  I took the seminar and test 1 week ago, so now it's the waiting game to find out how I did on it.  Seems like they could grade a scantron test in a little less than 4-6 weeks!The instructor I had (Bill Seyfarth) was really good, and knew his stuff.  But, I was disappointed in the seminar in general.  It was my opinion that they need more time dedicated to the codebook and less to the fundamentals.  Seems like we spent 2 days on fundamentals, which is pretty easy to study on your own from most good welding textbooks.  The code is much harder to study on your own - it's not like you can go to a library and find books on it.  The best thing I found was just going through all the sample questions you can find and getting used to looking for things in the codebook.
Reply:I thought the class was well worth it.  I guess it could depend on the instructor though.  More than likely, somebody was looking for an excuse for why they failed...You don't need to memorize the book - just know WHERE to find info in the book (it's an open book test).  You should recieve the study guide before you go to the class - just study it, and you should do fine on the test.  Make no mistake, you will feel like you've been run over by a freight train at the end of the week!Good luck.

Reply:I took my initial test in 1992, I just re-certified for my third 9 year session. I did all my preparation by self study. I have worked with dozens of CWI's,and SCWI's. Everyone I have asked has spoken quite highly of the seminars. I have recommended people go the seminar route. Those that have not passed have all told me, that they fail to spend the time studying at night as directed. hoope, this helps.
Reply:Yes, I guess I may have sounded a little against the seminar, but that is not the case.  I think it was very helpful for the exam - I just wish they offered a little more emphasis on the Code.  And, I have to bite my tongue on the the waiting game comment as well.  I received an email from them today stating I'd passed and my scores would follow in the mail.  That makes me a very happy person today!!

Reply:The seminar is a waste. I am  not sure if there are any near you, but there is a NDT company near me that offers CWI training the week of the test. They charge about $1000 to take their class and it is way better than the AWS seminar.
