If you were going to buy or build a truck for pipeline welding, what are the bare minimums? 3/4 ton? Dually? 4x4?....and what welding machine? Air compressor? I know this sounds too general but I'm new to pipe welding. Thanks fellers.
Reply:JDM62,There's a posting with photos of dozens of pipeliner rigs. Do a search and review what you find in that posting. Reply:I've owned both 3/4 and 1 Ton. Don't make a mistake. Get a 1 ton or better off the top, and a 300 amp + machine for the Air arc ability. Long leads is a must. 4x4 is a must. Also your compressor depends on what you're going to use with it. Air arc, and Plasma (For future planning) requirements are a must. Each plasma cutter specifies your CFM requirements on average at 90 psi. Whatever you do don't buy equipment which won't suit your needs or you'll do what many of us have done and be in constant upgrade pursuit which can be a money pit. Take time, research and save yourself time and money by doing it right the first time. |
