Hey all, I'm new to tig so my first project with my Dynasty 200 was to make a welding table to sit at. That parts done. It's 32 inches wide. I'm wondering how to accessorize it? Does anyone have good ideas for a torch holder or rod holder? Mounting stuff is easy but need something gentle and secure for the torch especially. Couldn't find much reference to it when I did a search.Dennis
Reply:To make a simple torch holder, take a piece of 16 gauge mild steel exhaust tubing...whatever size you deem appropriate (2" diameter x 2 or 3" length should be enough), then cut it length-wise down the center. Split it open, allowing enough room to fit your torch. The torch head will rest on top of it. Weld it on your bench where you want it. Think of how a toothbrush holder works...hope that helps.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I have a 3/4" hole drilled thru mine on the right hand side near the edge about a torch handle's length that I just "dump" the cup into so you dont touch it by accident..And on the top of the welder when I wrap up for the day..I took the "thingie" that comes on a push broom (that would hang the broom on a wall..theres one on each end) and mounted it on the welder and it holds the torch so it dont have to hang..Very nice.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:By "thingy" are you talking about a loop? I was thinking about making something like a spring clip that would hold a broom up but was afraid of chaffing the torch. Hmmm, maybe a modification of the tooth brush holder. Something that involves a carabiner with a spring loaded gate.Dennis

Reply:Heres what I was trying to explane..Hole for the torch..Lets face it when you get done with 250 amps the cup can get red hot and if you accidently brush it with your hand or arm you know whats next.. So drill a hole in the table and there is no way you'll burn yourself on it..Now about the "Thingie"Here it is..And when I'm done for the day here it is "in use"There you have it..Just a few ideas from ...zap! ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Very interesting accessory but at $28 I think I'll just keep holding it in the hand. John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I took a piece of 1/4" round stock bent it into a "U" and then bent a 90 on the two uprights. I welded it to a 1" c clamp I got a harbor freight for .99 and clamp it to the edge of the table. Cheap, easy , works great, and movable. Got the idea from the Ron Covell welding DVD. Ant new owner of a DYN200 should have this dvd. It should come with the machine IMOMike

Reply:I made a couple of these for my 3' x 6' welding table. I wanted a torch holder that I could move around the table, but didn't want a magnet one. So far I'm pleased with the design, except when I forget there's one attached to the edge and I walk past and get an unwanted appendectomy. Attached ImagesThere are no small projects
Reply:Very cool design ideas. Imagineer - i'm going to drive over to OH so you can give me that crash course in Autodesk 10. I hate having it and not being able to use it. Very nice CAD image!John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:"So, Moneypit. Nice choice in your box. Got any pics of your table to share with us?" DirtyLittleSecret. Well, no pics. Cable came up missing on my digital camera so I need to get another one. Sounds like your table is going to be a lot bigger than mine. I found the plan in the back of one of Finch's welding books. Just tweaked it around to suit me better. He said to tack weld strap iron across one area so they can be easily replaced after lots of cutting. I just welded small peices of angle iron back to back to create slots. I can just lift the strap out and replace. Casters on one end. Made levelers on the other. Stuff like that. Pretty happy so far but needed to ask some accessory ideas. Great responses. Gives me enough to build something. I don't want to buy anything as this gives me good reason to TIG weld. Dennis |
