I have two stainless tanks i need to cut what is the best way
Reply:plasma is by far the fastest way.
Reply:you can also use 4.5" cutoff wheels on a hand grinder they last fairly good as long as you dont snag them cheaper than a plaz for occasional useDo not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Reply:By far plasma cutter. Thank goodness mine gets here today!
Reply:I must agree; plasma wins hands down. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Cut-off wheels work but dont let it bite. If it bites it can break and shater. A buddy of mine was cutting stainless with one and it shatterd and cut his knuckle and throat but luckily the cut wasnt too deep.
Reply:Angle grinder with a cut off disc is certainly the most cost effective way to cut any steel. Plasma is nice but expensive. If your using an angle grinder with a cutoff disc and don't use a face shield or atleast eye protection, your very foolish.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I found out that the flame torch will only melt its way through stainless when I ran into some stainless safety chains that had to come off in a hurry. I also found out that deep, ugly rusted metal won't cut worth spit either, it just kinda catches on fire from the preheat flame...Plasma will handle stainless reel nice though!  Otherwise you gotta pick your favorite mechanical cutter, abrasive cutter, what-have-you.City of L.A. Reply:Actually, plasma is the most cost effective way to cut metals in most cases. Cost is a function of labor, consumables, electricity, and equipment cost. So, if you have a small job, spending a lot of time cutting slowly with a cut off disc may be cost effective....although you genrally use a lot of discs, and a lot of valuable time, it is also difficult to cut intricate shapes and small holes with this method! Plasma, on the other hand , will get the job done in very little time, and has the ability to cut intricately.Time is money!Jim Originally Posted by snoeproeAngle grinder with a cut off disc is certainly the most cost effective way to cut any steel. Reply:A cutoff blade in a skillsaw works.  Easeir to control then a 4-1/2" grinder.
