Here is the latest victim..... I'm NOT done! (ZAP!  ) The bucket is 48" wide with a 1/2" floor. Someone (or many someones) have been at this bucket before. Plating, reinforcing, stitching.... so it all has to go.First I'll cut the floor and wear bars about a 1/2" from where they are welded to the side plates and and remove the floor in large sections.  http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010002.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010003.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010004.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010005.jpgThen I will remove the remaining floor and wear bars sections using a carbon arc, for this I ran a 3/8" rod. Grind any remaining weld and slag..... clean up the area to be welded. http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010015.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010016.jpgAt this point I'll make a template of the bucket profile so that I can bend the new floor... Let's cut the floor material.http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010011.jpgA few more bumps in the brake and this will fit real nice!http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010017.jpgI'll post more as I go.... hope you enjoy_________________Chris

Reply:Okay here's where we're at.........I finished bumping the floor.... it fit awesome. I only had to dog down one area, and not by much either.  http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010018.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010028.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010029.jpgThe next step was to tie in the outside corner of the new floor to the sides. This was just a quick weld so I could roll the bucket over to do the welding on the inside. The outside corner will get plenty of welding when I add the wear bars. The inside of the bucket recieved 3 passes of 1/16" Outershield 70 35 OVC, approx 350 IPM on the feeder. (that's cranking). You can see the nice fit of the new floor in the 1st pic here, the floor is actually set 1/2" (the floor thickness) inside of the side plates. http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r.../P10100200.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010025.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010027.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010033.jpgThis is an example of a good indication to knowing when your machine, as well as your travel speed and what not are tuned in. The slag covering will lift itself off the weld or at the most need the tap of a pencil to remove it. You shouldn't have beat the slag off with a hammer.http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010024.jpgNow I'm sure you noticed the large gaps at the ends of the floor plate... that was a mistake....   What had happened was after I rolled the template on my bench to get an approx length for the plate, I mearured to what I thought was the right mark, when in fact the mark I wanted to pull to was 2" beyond but my tape measure covered it so I didn't notice the mistake until AFTER I cut the plate.... OOOPS!  So let this be a lesson.... when you're laying stuff out on a bench make sure you remove any marks from any previous lay out work. So what I did to fix it was this. I took a piece of 1/2 x 1/2 square bar, ground down 2 corners opposite of each other. I placed the bar into the gap with the non ground corners touching the new floor and the old. This actuall created a nice double V groove. I tied in any gaps with the small MIG and then poored in the 1/6" .... take a look for yourself.http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010031.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010032.jpgWith the floor welded in it's time to lay out and start bump rolling the long outside wear bars.... First I make another template of the floor profile. I'm using 3/4" x 7" AR400F. Note when ordering the material that will be formed it is very important to keep in mind the grain of the plate, especially if you will be bump rolling. You want to bend AGAINST the grain and NOT with the grain. Even though AR400F is supposed to be "formable" it can snap, it has happened to me before. So on my side wear bars the grain is running the long way. http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010037.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010036.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/P1010034.jpgYou can see I have a nice fit even though I have not fit cut the ends of the bars....... That's where I'm at for now. More later..... thanks for looking. _________________Chris

Reply:Zap I think the bottom pay is around 17.00 hr. But if a person who applys has welding experience they won't start them at the bottom. Lorenzo bucket looks good keep up the good work!
