I was looking at Lincoln K2185-1 Handy MIG 110V MIG Welder on ebay.  I have the bigger stuff but was wondering how these would be for light and portable welding.  For example, I had to weld a gate on a property of mine.  My stuff was too hard to move, needed 240, etc. so I had a guy with a portable welder do it.  I was thinking I would use this little welder for that an light gauge welding.  Anyone out there have experience with these units?Jim
Reply:I've got a HH125 and run selfsheilding fluxcore for small outdoor projects like you mentioned.   I chose the HH125 because it doesn't come with regulators (cheaper), and I knew I would never use it for MIG.  If I had to do it again, I definitely wouldn't get anything smaller than a 125amp welder.  The 125Amp machine with selfshielding fluxcore will produce adequate penetration up through 11guage mild steel.  I'm not so sure about the smaller welders (i've never used one).  However, should you decide to go with a smaller unit, there seems to be an ample supply of the Lincoln 100amp units for sale on Craigslist. My 220Volt Miller MIG is the hands down indoor choice.

Reply:I use my Passport mig on 110v with .035 fluxcore alot for on-site work.  I plug it into the Bobcat's 220v outlet when 110v isn't enough juice to do the job.  When .035 isn't big enough, stick or Suitcase feeder does it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Cheapest you could do is prolly a tombstone and a generator. I have been looking for a tombstone but would like to get AC/DC, so they don't come up for sale too often.I have seen AC225s for $200.

Reply:I run my 3200HD Box store 115V Lincoln off of a Honda 3000 Generator and then even better a 5500 watt unit.  I did a lot of my fence with it... could be better, but it's done  Cost me I think $450 at Lowes, I had the generators.  Duane is smarter, he finds these older sound ~150 amp engine driven units A/C Lincon or Millers  and gets them cooking for a coupa hundred $ and he can weld anywhere easily.  I think that is a better choice, so I found the WeldanPower 225 ac/dc and will complete the other 1100 feet with that Attached ImagesLast edited by PapaLion; 04-11-2010 at 07:55 PM.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
