I finally finished the 1/3 size replica of the 1923 case hay press.  I had to fabricate a lot of parts.  A lot of welded parts you can't see.  It makes a very nice bale 5x7x13 inches.  Bunch of rivets too. Attached Images
Reply:VERY cool. Cute little hay bales.
Reply:way cool!
Reply:man do you have plans for that thing its awsome great job
Reply:Blast from the past. Great work. Back around '82 or so I had the opportunity to see an old broken down version of a "mule powered" press. Long post up and a pole sticking way out, plank construction, acme thread plunger, hand wrought straps holding everything together. Neat.
Reply:Very nice work.  I like seeing these old machines and replicas.  I just gotta ask why did you choose to build this particular item?DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:In answer to the questions, I built the baler from plans, fun to watch it make bales, and hope to sell the bales at various places.  Thanks for the nice comments.  Don't have any horses large or small.

Reply:Years ago when I lived in Iowa, the town of Mt Plesant had a week long "Old Threashers Reunion". Every kind of old steam and gas powered piece of equipment you could imagine and when they got a bunch of them running, they could put a real cloud of smoke over the area. One year there was a guy there with a baler making bales like yours and people were lined up to buy them to use for house decorations in the fall of the year. Good luck with your machine and at the right events, I'm sure it will be a hit.
Reply:Just when you thought youve seen every type of model... along comes the hay baler.. Reply:Now that is really neat.  I'm a retired Ind. maint. manager  but now teach welding , fabricating and blueprint reading at a local community technical college to mostly machinist and Industrial maintenance apprentices.  That would be the perfect interest getter in a class. Man, what an idea!  I salute you on this one.  If plans are available I would love to get a copy.DonDonM > ASME High Pressure Vessel
