I finally brought home a T joint that I welded together. It used to be a few more plates larger but I cut the bad welds off for easier transport. The welds were made with 6010 rod and have 3 passes. This was by far my best one. Sorry for the not so good pictures, it was hard to focus the camera. Looks alot better in real life  One of the better pics was to big. Note: this is after 2 weeks of welding 2 hours a day Attached Images

Reply:I can only do this at school (so far), but what do I need to clean it? The students are only equiped with wire brushes and slag hammers personally.
Reply:Use your instructor's hairpiece then (its probably steel wool anyways)! We recently had a really good thread on "cleaning metal".  I felt like an idiot for asking, but turns out that it was a good question to ask... http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...cleaning+metalI'd be brushing it super clean and hit with Acetone, but if that's all ya got then that's all you got!  Then again, youve probably got more experience than I do.ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:Stargate:   You might try even more heat and a faster , more violent whip, to flatten things out for your caps.   You are not quite at the skill level but in a month or so you might give it a try.    I expect you were hanging around 90 amps on 1/8th rod??  Practice bumping it up until you are around 120 and whipping at a rate of three per second. ... forward and back 1/2 to 3/4 inch.  Things will flatten out and your ripples will be twice as fine.  If you go too slow at 120 to 130 you will give yourself undercut and a very hard to manage puddle.  The buildup is not very much.
