First welding project outside of the classroom and with my new Millermatic 180.Because I move alot and don't normally have lots of room to work in, I wanted to build a table that solved several problems:Used for multiple processes (welding/cutting)Portableupgradeabletaller than "normal" to reduce bendingI came up with a fairly decent design although my own metal cutting could use some work .I already have plans to add a sheet metal bender to the end of the table plus making a drop inthat fits in the cutout that will be able to mount various other tools (vice, NoMarTireChanger, etc).So far, I've learned I can create decent welds on thicker materials but thinner sheet metal seems to be getting the best of me. That and cutting a straight line isn't as easy as it should be. I need to work on stopping and starting some more too.More pics in the next post... Attached Images

Reply:Nice looking table. Tell me what the bin area is for and is there like a drain hole in the bottom of it. You have my curiosity peaked.Michael
Reply:A bin or chute for the sparks and slag. I'm using the same idea but just adapting a metal trash can into my HF cart/plasma table. John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Yep. Just like Micro said, it's a chute. I still have to make the catch can for that will hang off the cross bar. And finsh the other two shelves that will hold tools and scrap metal.I need all the practice I can get and I'm trying to challenge myself at the same time. All the different angles on the chute had me swearing like a sailor.
Reply:And when all your welding friends come over you can fill it up with charcoal...Make yourself some stainless"dudes".. And roast weenies for everyone!! Looks good.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I can see losing tools down the shoot and going crazy looking for them that would be my luck (now where did I put my striker)

Reply:Hi seamus, your table looks great. Can you tell us what the dimensions are and what size angle you used for the frame? A welding table is my next project - I am thinking 3' x 5' as that will fit my garage space. I am guessing yours is in that range. Are you happy with the thickness of the top? Would you do anything different if you built another table? Thanks,"Don't confuse motion with progress"
