As some of you may know I recently dusted off a Miller arc-pak 350. I am moving soon to Southern Oregon and housing prospects are not looking too good - so i`m tossing around the idea of getting a service truck to store all my tools on, then lock it up on the RV pad that is provided - there will be no garage! This is a big WTF for me. I really like the idea of a service truck that I can tow my Jeep to the trails and generally an all around vehicle. Maybe use it for a few side jobs if I get ambitious and sick of computer programming.Anyways, the question at hand is - are there any big generators out there that would power my welder as well as some regular 110 power tools? I have done zero research on the subject and would just like to get some ideas before I start Googling the subject for the next week. The obvious choice would be to pick up a badass SA-200 but thats adding quite a bit of cash to the overall tab when I have a great machine that suits my needs already. And thanks to 7A749 I also have some great accessories for my welding machine. And as a bonus to the topic - what do you guys do to secure your service trucks? My insurance is already pretty stout and will cover every last tool in a worst case scenario but i`d rather keep everything safe in the first place.
Reply:The SA200 isn't much of a generator.  If you want a good generator on your service truck, get a Bobcat.  They're cheap (as far engine drive welders go) and can stick weld as well as provide 10KW of generator power.  You can pick up a used Bobcat in good condition for $1500-2000, sometimes less.  A regular generator of that size will cost at least that much, so you may as well get one that can weld too.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Not only that but isn't the SA-200 a DC only generator or am I full of it?.....Mike
