Folks I am trying to find some kinetic sculpture ideas/patterns/templates for outdoors as well as desktop.  I tried searches but all I find are retailers trying to sell their sculptures.  Any idea on websites with project instructions?  Thanks in advance.....
Reply:Search under "metal art kinetic sculpture" Most artist aren't going to tell you how. That would be like KFC giving out the method to Mr Cluck's! It takes time to figure out the physics but that's part of the fun and the art of it! I will say it's nice to work in metal cause you can add, grind off or bend to get the balance right! I like to help everyone I can out, but there are some things I keep to myself. I've got a metal finish that metal artists would crap a brick for, but that one is staying with me and Mike. Good luck,Bert200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Book to start with for design: Schodek, _Structure_in_Sculpture_ ([ame]http://www.amazon.com/Structure-Sculpture-Daniel-L-Schodek/dp/0262193132[/ame])  Best to use the library for this. It is out of print and in demand.... a copy went for about $150 a recently in a local bookstore, and it was damaged.Lots of web sites, ranging from the simple to the sublime: Tim Hunkin: http://www.timhunkin.com/ Lots of videos of his work and process, as well as the EXCELLENT "secret life of machines" series.Fun for ideas: http://www.cabaret.co.uk/http://automata.co.uk/mainpage.htmlhttp://www.arthurganson.com/pages/Sculptures.htmlTons more. For a start, I'd suggest playing with wire, as it is easy to work and inexpensive. Play with balance and forms. Look at the Ganson site for a lot of ideas on mechanisms, linkages, and structural form.
Reply:Thanks fella....appreciate your kind assistance...

Reply:In HS metal shop (1991ish) my class made one to compete in the annual race held in Arcata, CA. Took us all semester. It was basically 2 articulating units with a pilot in the front unit and copilot in the rear unit.It was aloominuminum and MIG'd. I was the copilot and we finished 2nd!For those who are curious it's a 3 day race held on all terrain and an expansive 1.5 mile water crossing. Human power only.Google "Hobart Brown".Ryan, Hoopa High School, class of 1991. I thinkLincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
