Installing a solid rear axle in my corvette....wife came out and said I had lost my marbles for cutting a perfectly good car apart...but I told her it would be better than before... The car previously was the fastest n/a IRS equipped car in the country...went 1.37 60' times and [email protected] me know how my welds look. Bought a welder (MM210) specifically for this project....never welded before and LOVE it. Think I am getting the hang of it pretty good...so give me your thoughts on the beads.....Thanks...Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 - 6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH
Reply:From what I can actually see it looks great!First timer huh? Keep it up!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I thought I recognized the car pics from gDR.com! If those are your first welds, consider yourself WAY ahead of the game! Look great, just a little fine tuning on both your part and the machines, and you're there!
Reply:Not bad, not bad, looks like you got the hang of it. Make sure you tack, tack, tack so your parts don't get too hot. Then weld one side, weld the other side, rotate and oppose each piece, otherwise you'll have a nice warp to the metal. It looks like you did good.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Never welded before, huh? Good job!!...and doing your own 4-bar install and teaching yourself how to weld....awesome.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:The EconoTIG is a decent machine for the money. If you're only going to hobby with it, it's perfect! I've done 3/8" aluminum, prepped with beveling, and it comes out great. Everyone always wants a bigger machine, I just buy what is necessary.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:ski_dwn_it - Kind of figured as much with the straight axle conversion and all. Just don't try to call it stock suspension and go run with Major now j/k
Reply:Unreal!!There is a future in it for ya!Talent like that is born into you..To be able to "pick it up" and then run with it comes naturally..Sorta like playing the drums... Nobody can teach you how to move 2 arms and 2 legs at diffrent speeds no matter how much yelling goes on.... I took 2 weeks of drum lessons and told the teacher to "cram it up yout cram hole"... same thing with welding sorta...When ya "got it..you got it"And you definatly "have it".. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Yup, for first welds I'd say you'd have to be a natural. Now as long as it don't break on the track you'll be OK DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Wow fellas....thanks for all the comments! Didn't think I would get that sorta positive feedback. Figured I would be the only one that thought they were decent. Funny thing is I just showed one of the guys from maintenance that was asking how the project was coming along and he just said.....errrrhhhh, yeah that is OK. Builting a crossmember for the trans tonight. Then it should be almost road/race worthy. Again thanks for the comments.Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 - 6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH
