I've got a CV machine that I run an LN-25 off of usually in straight polarity .     When I turn it to it's lowest output setting it's about 21 volts.      I am hoping someone would know of something I can hook to my output cable off machine to help knock the volts down a little.     The machine was made to go down to about 11 volts, but it doesn't.    This machine is old, has had different people changing parts on it I think, and at the moment it's working and I'm a little shy to start messing w/ it.     If we could come up w/ a way to knock it down about 4 volts, I'd be happy.
Reply:Hook up a couple hundred feet of lead and the voltage will drop at the feeder.  Make poor connections for your leads and the voltage will drop.  Use too skinny of leads the voltage will drop.  Any way you can make it more difficult to carry the voltage over the distance, or increase the distance, the voltage will drop.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Yea, that could be made to work.    Kinda what I had in my imagination was some kind of insulated block w/ coils or something in it to reduce voltage.      I used to have these 4 cyl industrial flathead Ford engines, which had conventional points in the distributor.    The points would burn up on a 12 volt system after a while.    So there was a resistor that you could buy for like ten bucks, that was about two inches long and half inch thick.   It was insulated by porcalin w/ a long coil or two in it with a terminal on each end to connect a wire, and you installed it in inline from 12v battery to the distibutor.    The resistor would knock the voltage down to about 9.8 volts or something like that to give the points a better life span.    So I am hoping someone knew of something like that, but more heavy duty.   Maybe someone who was in the military had seen or used something like that.
Reply:A few large diodes in series .
Reply:Why thank you Bluewelders,   I don't really understand it or how, but I'll research it.
Reply:Just do a search for "diodes voltage drop".
Reply:I have been wanting to cut down Amps and have been thinking of adding resistance but to the ground side. like a bar of more resistance metal.  Roll this around in your mind, I'ed like to get some thoughts on this. Thanks Richard This might work for 123Weld also!
