Hey guys...Well, theres this guy on youtube that has build what he calls a "redneck rollercoaster" which is basicly an old caviler with a bench seat welded out in the front of it, about ten feet off the ground. Its not sound at all, even i know this. It wouldnt really be a problem if it was just him, but the thing is, he has all his friends out driving it. They slam on the brakes, and the bench flies foward and hits the ground as the back of the car goes several feet into the air.Is this a problem?? It has two support points, the first consists of the chairs rebar frame welded to the roof of the car. I know youre never supposed to weld rebar, because no ones exactialy sure whats in it. Its been called the "bologna" of the metal world, and is liable to crack, become britle and snap. It will snap in half. I read about this on this wonderful forum. And the rebar is welded to the cars roof. This just screams bad idea to me, but thats just me. Id never ever ever ever ever weld something to that thin steel, none the less something that holds live human beings 10 feet in the air abouve a moving vehicle. But thats allright, if the roof supports fail, accually when they fail, the bumper supports will hold them, right???Oh thats right. The back bumper on my s10 says it will hold 400 pounds. But thats on a truck. This seat frame alone looks like more then 400 pounds. And my bumpers designed for holding things. Id imagine that the front bumper on a mid 90s caviler would bend just from looking at it.Im no expert here, but every last bit i know about welding and designing things, even though it isnt much, screams this will get someone killed. What are your thoughts??[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8m8FMsuLCc[/ame]

Reply:Let me start by saying this is not indicative of Canada what so ever and should not be take in such a way, Hell, they're not even wearing hockey helmets....... ........................having said that,Why didn't he use a snowmobile eh? This is classic thinning of the heard. Yeah, to just look at it, it's got to be pretty fun. But then what? Just keep doing the same thing over an over?? We would refer to these type folks as "Canuckle-heads" ( Can- knuckle- heads). You have to remember our "first beer" is legal at 18 or 19 depending on the Province you're in and is much stronger (++alcohol %) than your American beer. If you want to make some quick cash up here, go to tourist bars and challenge Americans to drinking games.  Their next project is a human sling-shot!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Natural selection This is how you control the population of stupid people. Encourage their really stupid ideas then leave them unsupervised with beer and the will build it.

Reply:OK, I have to ask, is there something in your water supply that turns peoples brains to mush with the end result that it silences that little bell that should ring in your head and says " hey this is a stupid idea and could potentially kill me". I mean, what are these people thinking?First person "Ummm I'm bored! what are we going to do this week?" Second person: ummm! I dunno, let's all get pissed and see what stupid ideas we can come with" some time later after considerable amounts of beer.First person, "Hey!!!!  I know, lets build a giant slingshot and strap someone in it and hope one of the bands doesn't break otherwise it might send that someone straight into into the steel posts or the ground at some phenomenal speed"Second person " hey yeah! that would be so cooooool! but wait till we have a few more beers before we build it, and after we finish it we'll have another carton before we try it, so  if it does break we won't feel it as much".Or even First person: "Hey, I know,  lets sit up in the air on a tower mounted on top of our car and see how close we can get the car to flip up with out it going over and crushing us to death and  let's try to see how close we can get our face to the ground"Second person, " Hey man, you are so smart coming up with such great ideas,  have a few more beers before you build it so you get it right""Darwin Awards", you got to love them, I wonder if they can be given out before the act in prior recognition for absolute dedication to the task of removing oneself from the gene pool!!!!?
