So there was a post in the shop/trade/sell forum about this unidentified contraption. Turns out to be a cigar lighter. Wouldn't it be fun to build something that has absolutely no purpose and then sell it on ebay as an item that you are selling but that you don't know what it is? I want to start a project, send it to another user on this forum, let them add something to it, then send it to another. We would keep updating the thread with pictures here each time another user added to it. Then someone would finally say....it's done. Then we could all offer ideas as to what it really is.With ALL the fantastic tools that we all have combined, what a great gag item it could be. Zap has some mad lathe skills. He could turn out something really detailed but useless to add. Oh...my mad mind is going crazy now!Anyone in for a game? Let me know!Go read the thread and you will see what I mean. Just to get an idea of the look I would be going for. Antiqueish, detailed, mysterious.         Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:It's a great idea, but shiping that thing all over the country would get expensive fast. I think it would be better to have a few people build different things seperately, then have a contest to see who can sell theirs for more. Winner gets as much beer as they can afford with the proceeds from the auction.
Reply:Fun idea. That is almost like that movie " Sisterhood of the blue jeans "...or whatever it was called. Basically they shared a lucky pair of jeans and shipped them back and forth to each other. A girly movie but my girlfriend MADE me watch. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:It's a paper weight, with holes around the perimeter for pens/pencils.  Square in middle is for paper clips, large hole for magic marker/high lighter.
Reply:Looks like a hub for matching up two shafts or even a center section for a stump grinder. ...maybe a UFO ?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:How about "UAO", unidentified aluminum object.

Reply:It's a flux capacitor made from a light weight, high strength alloy steel that creates a hydrostatic vapor lock on your welding machine so you can weld way into the future.....Not sure....just a wild guess:

Reply:Joker, I am loving the idea If we could get free shipping setup.  I think with all of the steel being added, it would start as $5 to ship, and end up costing each of us $20 to ship, plus our supplies, and time for the thing.  Then no one will buy this useless thing.  lolMaybe more of a contest for everyone individually like maxyedor said.I'm 21 and learningAvid 4wd enthusiastASE Master tech (Automotive), mechanic/fabricator by trade
Reply:If guidelines were set to only use aluminum, less than 1/8 inch, it wouldn't be too bad. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Awww, c'mon, you can't be in it for the money. You just gotta jump in and contribute for the fun. Tell ya what, I will start it and ship it to the next person. I mean, UPS ground can be pretty cheap guys. At any rate, it doesn't have to be big, just detailed. No rules on material. And the mystery item is, I say, a spoked wheel hub. I'm not saying those ARE the guidelines, just suggesting a material so shipping stays relatively inexpensive.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
