I love to use my Dynasty 200 on my metal art projects. Most projects require tacking the pieces  together to form the object that I am making .sometimes there is a 2-5 min time between tack welds . My question, after  post flow of 15 secs.does the line deplete completely of argone? if the totch is placed higher than the machine will it keep some of the gas in the line? Is it heavier than the atmosphere? just trying to save argone. Some times I use the spool gun  to do the tacking but it gets but it gets messy.  Does anyone have any thoughts ? All my projects are aluminum usually light material.    Thanks Jim
Reply:i would check to make sure you need that much post flow. as for what is in the line, well sounds a little petty. make sure your equipment is up to snuff."no leaks". good luck
Reply:Argon is heavier than air.  I don't keep my torch in any special position between welds.  15 seconds post flow is quite high for just a tack weld.  Couple seconds is enough for tacks.  Like Sammy said, you will lose alot more argon if you have a leak than worrying about what's in the torch line between welds.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I think your results will be better if you use argon rather than argone.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:yah 15 second post flow seems very high, I would set mine to about 3-5 seconds for tack welding. It doesn't matter how you hang your line unless your machine has a adjustable preflow timer.  While it makes sense I've never seen anyone take the time to do it, and you'd be saving a pennies worth of Artone down your post flow and call it a day. More $$ savings by going to a bigger bottle of argon that's more economical to fill, or you can run flux core, but usually the price difference is more than the cost of gas.Last edited by Metarinka; 05-25-2010 at 01:25 PM.Welding EngineerCertified Scrap Producer
Reply:The amount or argon you are worried about leaking out of your torch is so small you cant even measure it.. As for your postflow 15 sec. can be excessive depending what material you are welding..SS you might need it carbon a 5 sec would be sufficient..
Reply:Hi guys, Thanks for the comeback and spelling adj. Anyway the only reason that I set 15 secs. was that what the manual recomended. I think it is set into the Dynasty ,will try to shorten it tomorrow and recheck the book, thanks again for the info. Jim
