what amperage do I need to set when burning6011s and 7018s
Reply:have you ever welded before? i ask because it seems like you dont know enough to ask enough question.
Reply:DC+ For 1/8 " rod  6011 90 amps,  7018 130amps Start here and adjust to your liking and brand of rod.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:what size rods are you working with? 1/8th, 3/32, 5/32?-NateMiller Trailblazer 302gMiller Spoolmatic 30aLN-25 x 2Idealarc SP200Hypertherm Powermax 600
Reply:1/8 and thanh you have been using a bobcat and needed a starting point

Reply:WTF,Why would you think the amps would be different between a Bobber and a TB?If that's too difficult, I'd look at the box/tin.  Manufacturers generally give a range for the rods in the box.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I like to run 1/8" 6010 around 140-150 and 3/32 7018 around the same.  If you want to run 1/8" 7018, (which I have no idea why you would ever need to go that big) Id bump it up around 180-200Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Burn 6010's not 11's. 5p+. Same as any other machine. 3/32 start around 75-80 and adjust to what your welding. 1/8 6010 will burn on those amps just adjust. there is no magic heat. find a electrode scale showing the rod and the diameter and it will give you the range the rod burns.

Reply:What.... was it something I said?  Feel free to criticize me but look at my last 7018 cover pass and tell me those settings are wrong. Last edited by sn0border88; 06-04-2010 at 11:14 PM.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:it looks like your going to get a hazing for a question like that grin and bear it right, this is a great forum anyway. I run a 302 also, its a great welder so congratulations on the upgrade .Im not a pro though just to get that out in the open. on 6010 5/32 I run between 110 and 150 depending on how thick material Im welding and how impatient I am at the time but muffler pipe and stuff like that with 3/32 I run about 45 to 55 on the readout I would guess 6011 would be real close to the same. just play with it and you will figure it out.Last edited by idacal; 06-05-2010 at 01:12 AM.Do not argue with an idiot. Reply:SnO,Not trying to pick on you but you seem to want to bring a lot of "heat" your way. We've had our disagreements in the past over settings for tigging SS tubing.  I tried your settings and they flat "didn't work".  Way too hot.Now you're recommending settings for 60 and 70 series rod that are hugely out of line with the manufacturers recommendations.Maybe you need to have the output checked on the machines you're welding with.Another thing to keep in mind is that previous postings on a message board don't "go away".  They're there for all to view and form opinions. On 2-24-10 you recommended to a poster that he run 6011 1/8" rods at 90A.  Same posting you recommended that he run 7018 1/8" rods at 110-140A.Are you now saying that this poster should be running his rods hotter because the weather has "heated up"?You can fool some of the people all the time.  You can fool all the people some of the time.  But you can't fool all the people all of the time.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Ive been burning 5/32 6010 at 140. Structual plate. Like to move slow and steady...5/32 7018 around 150.For pipe, I cant comment, havent started it yet....1/8 seems so small after burning 5/32 and 1/4 for sooo long...Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:Sundown....
