I have small open trailer to haul my little race car on. I wan to make a cap for it similar to those on snowmobile trailers. The cap would be hinged in the front so it would lift up to roll the car off the trailer. See attached image.Anybody ever do this? Attached ImagesLee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
Reply:I've never built one, but I own a trailer similar to the one shown. I can take some good close up images if you want. There really isn't much to them at all. Mine hinges both ways so you can lift the front, and the rear. If you wanted to just lift the rear it would probably be a piece of cake.-Cory
Reply:Thanks Cory! I am mainly interested in the frame construction and the way the aluminum skin is attached. I'm thinking a real simple frame with the skin pop riveted. I guess finishing the edges would be the challenge.Lee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
Reply:I can't remember exactly, but I think that the alum. skin might be attached with just machine screws, and as for the finish edge, I think it is a type of rubber banding. I've got to run home from work in a little bit, I'll take a couple pics while I'm there.
Reply:Sorry about the delay, what should have been a couple hour project on a motorhome ended up taking all morning, afternoon, and evening, and it's still not done. I clicked these this morning, if you want any specific pics let me know. -Cory

Reply:Cory - thanks, that is what I needed.elvergon - I am thinking of making the frame from 1/8 mild angle. The cap only needs to be 10'x5', and only 36" tall. So it should be light enough. I really don't want to learn to weld aluminum.Lee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot |
