I know I'm gonna get a lot crap about doing this but that's what the guy wanted and I told him it wasn't a good idea. I forgot to take pics so I'll explain it as good as I can. He has a 83 chevy custom deluxe that is sharp as a tack. He had it on the rack changing his oil and somehow notice the front of the leaf spring was broke right in the bend of where the bushing goes (completely apart) and the back was the same way on the other side. After pulling the whole spring assembly out I noticed it had been welded before and not very well. It had been broke for a while and the weld that was on it hadn't been beveled out before they welded it. it was just a small thin bead and they probably didn't even take the spring out before fixing it. I beveled it down to almost a edge on both sides and welded it up with a clamp on. After done the bushings fit like factory, I just hope it holds. I've welded on springs before and they're still holding Some people are cheap. We rode around all night in the truck after I fixed it and it's still good. Reply:I have attempted is as a quick fix for some log trailers to get them in to the shop, but never seen one that lasted anytime. Usually I could seen signs of failure starting by the time we got them to the shop.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:A guy I know from work welded a broken leaf spring on his Chevy pickup. I was a little shocked when he told me that he did it. But then again this is the same guy that doesn't want to buy a floor jack to work on his truck because "they are too expensive." Reply:As stated then shelf life is not very long...You don't want to be "it" now do you???...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I have welded a few main leafs. The one I remember the best is on the front of my 53 willys pick up. I anealed it, welded it with 7018. Heated it again and quenched it in old motor oil. It held as long as I had the truck. Wish I had it now!DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I welded two leafs on the back of my W200 Dodge. Got over for a few weeks until I made it to the spring shop to get some new springs. I picked up two complete new spring packs for $230.
