The harbor freight Chop Saw angle guide is only good up to 45 degrees metric. Well I needed 70 degrees american, so I made this simple jig. Attached ImagesMiller Syncrowave 200Hobart Handler 140Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38E-Z Tube BenderPlasma Cam DHC2
Reply:Pretty slick.. Chopsaws are nice to have..I just wish the bases were a little more heavy duty.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Very slick indeed, now we just need to make it adjustable! John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:It was a play on words, but dont let that angle finder on the HF chop saw fool you, its not accurate. You are better off leaving it at a fixed 90 degrees, and making angled jigs like these that are true.Miller Syncrowave 200Hobart Handler 140Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38E-Z Tube BenderPlasma Cam DHC2

Reply:If you use your right hand to operate it then it makes you stand out of the way of sparks, debris and blade if it shatters. If you use your left hand you'll be standing right in the danger zone if something happens. It isnt a left handed saw, it's a built in safety design.

Reply:I've never trusted the angles they have stamped on either, I always use an angle gauge lined up on the saw itself to set the angle guide. The extra time spent there is saved in fit up later, especially on multiple cuts. To make cuts over 45 like quicifer I have a fixed 45 that I add to the cutoff saws guide so I can go to very acute angles. I still my own angle gauge though LOL, dont even trust the saw guide when it says it's 90.Latest Toys Miller 180 Mig and Elite Mask!!Wright Welder 225ACShop OutFitters 20/20 Bending SystemHypertherm 380 Plasma30 Years of Sparking (Electrical & Welding)
Reply:I use a carpenters sqaure to set the fence at a perfect 90, and then I clamped my fixed jig to it. Worked great, perfect fitup on multiple peices.Miller Syncrowave 200Hobart Handler 140Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38E-Z Tube BenderPlasma Cam DHC2

Reply:I use a sliding T bevel to set the angle.  I lower the blade and then insert the bevel between the vise jaw and the blade.  Those extreme angle cuts are always a problem.  I had to do a similar thing on a wood cutting chop saw fitted with a carbide aluminum cutting blade.  Hundreds of cuts sharper than 30 degrees.

That is with the saw in the left hand you can see the blade and the cut, where you can't (comfortably) with the saw in your right hand. I have always thought that was weird, most tools are designed with right-handed people in mind.[QUOTE=Joe H]I thought they were all this way...Most circular saws are "left handed" too. They make wormgear circular saws that are left handed(special situations), seen and used them making stairs. It's normally right handed operation for safety, yeh I know it's awkward to see the line your following with a circular saw. LOL I'm ambidextrious so it doesnt matter left or right handed to me but it's the safety factor you have to remember. Stay out of line of the saw blade no matter which way you want to call it. Reply:I usually trust the markings - make the cut - then spend 1/2 hour and 6 rods to weld the gap - not to mention the size of the HAZ.....but it cools down fast as I apply the spray paint and move onto the next project..... Great tip - thanks...
