HeyNew to the site, so hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction. My employer has asked me to teach a 24hr (two 12 hr., shifts) basic welding course. It has to be safety heavy and cover the basics of SMAW. (roughly 6 to 8hr of theory and the rest hands on). The goal is to get them to be able to complete 1 to 2 inch stitches with 3/32", 1/8" with both E7018 and 309L (stainless to mild steel).I have been going through the old material from the previous teacher and its very out dated, and the VHS tapes are probably older than myself.I have recently completed my "Welder" Apprenticeship and have my Red Seal so I have all that material I am mostly just looking for some new safety DVD's (preferably ones that do not advertise companies products throughout the video).Looking for any input on great videos for people that will range in age from 20 to 50 years old and will provide a solid understanding of the SMAW process. Thanks
Reply:millerwelds.com has what you need in the resources for sale section.  Go to their main site, click on resources and look around for what you want.  It may advertise Miller stuff a little, but not too heavily in the safety and SMAW type stuff.  Good luck, hope this helpsBobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Hobart Institute also has teaching materials available.  I guess they would be found on the Hobart welders website.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Hey thanks, That helps alot...I am sure I will come across some as I search, I just didn't know if anyone had personally watched any good ones (or something somewhat interesting that might keep people from falling asleep) As I mentioned before I was looking for something with little to no advertising throughout the video as I have found supplier videos to have alot of.
Reply:x2 for Hobart Institute of Welding Technology.go to www.welding.org, and then click on the bookstore link.  You can buy DVD training material and course handouts.Have fun... Reply:Hobart has some very informative DVD's, but they are kinda pricy. If you're looking for a truly riveting technically instructional DVD, let me know if you find one.I'll pay good money.CWI, CWE, CST for Miller, Lincoln, Thermadyne, Hypertherm & ESABMillermatic 350PLincoln Invertec 205 AC/DCVictor combo torchESAB PCM 1125
Reply:Lincoln had a program (No instructor left behind) which provided me with some DVDs containing theory and safety videos and power point presentations. They are heavy into lincolns own technology but are useful. They also have an AWESOME high resolution video of SMAW welding that shows the striking of the arc and subsequent welds in various positions. These videos show the puddle very clearly including the arc.I would suggest contacting your local or nearby Lincoln rep. Or any other mfg.
Reply:Hey thats a good idea, Gerald, I will call around to some nearby places and see what they might have...Money shouldn't be too much of a problem as the company will be paying the bill...Thanks everyone for you input
Reply:My school uses hobart materials for teaching.  Training wise if its just safety then what you find for one type of welding tends to be universal for all and carries across to any job type out there.
Reply:Thanks Big65mopar, but as I mentioned I just wanted some videos with he least amount of advertising to distract from the safety being taught
