I wanted to have something done on a CNC and then make a model of it and repeat it 300 times. It would need to be cast in aluminum. Thanks if there is anybody with in 200 miles of atlanta ill trade you a bottle of Scotch fora day of training. And i dont mean that protestant whiskey made by bushmills!
Reply:I don't know if you know this or not but there are several books available from Lindsay publcations on casting aluminum at home. The Dave gingery book Vol.1 of "Build your own machine shopfrom scrap" series "The Charcoal Foundry" is a nice little book.Steve Chastain's "Small Foundry Manual" has much more infor-mation.Both show plans for building a small charcoal foundry.I've seen plans for an electric foundry on some web site or forum.I don't remember where.I'm just starting to collect materials to build my own,so I can'tbe of much help.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:It's been 20+ years since I cast alum, though I do a bit of lead casting still.I do deal with 2 companies that might indirectly be a help. I do castings using polyurethane and silicone 2 part rubbers for stamps. Both companies advertise the use of thier products for making molds from originals for lost wax castings. I think both companies have info on their web sites on how to make the molds and cast the wax.http://www.polytek.com/cart/http://www.smooth-on.com/.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
