I mentioned a bent ball mount from our forklift. Here are some pictures of my mig'd replacement. The old piece was made of 2" x 1/8"(maybe 3/16"?) rectangular tubing and 3/4" plate. Well, it got jacknifed into a fifth wheel hitch because it was not removed from our forklift hitch cradle. The new piece is pre-drilled with a 5/8" hole for the reciever pin, 1/4" wall, 2" square tube with 1" plate drilled with a 1" hole for the hitch ball. I preheated the 1" plate for a good 5 minutes with the Oxy Acetylene torch. Here's the root pass of two passes on each side where the flair bevel groove weld allowed two passes. The root pass extends 360 degrees around the plate with a cover pass weaved on each side.A bit of padding on the sides for protection and done. We use the 2 & 5/16" riser hitch ball specifically for gooseneck trailers, but it works for any large trailer with a socket that size. The tubing came from my old Jeep hitch reciever and the plate was a school practice test plate cut in half right down the middle of my practice Vee-Groove. There it is, Danny.Edit, sorry wrong board! oops.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined.
