Well just to show I can do something besides run a stick. A farmer had an irrigation pipe blow out, and needed a fitting put together. So I broke out the old tig. Figured maybe Zap would learn something....... This fitting was galvanized, but it welded pretty good after I ground the crap out of it. "DISCLAIMER" I do not claim to be a tig hand, and this 30 dollar camera doesn't have a micro feature. but anyway here ya go...Last edited by MicroZone; 07-24-2007 at 09:41 PM.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Looks good! Did you TIG it just to do something different or was the flange SS?John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Thanks for the compliments. It was all carbon steel. 1/2" flange with .125 pipe. I normally stick weld this stuff too, but if I am not in a hurry will swap up and use a different process from time to time just to stay in practice for when something does come up. I don't do alot of tig work, and not real knowledgable on it, but I have started using it alot more recently just for the heck of it. Machine was set at 160 amps using the pedal with 3/32" red tungsten on argon. Filler was 1/16th 70s-2 and was all done freehand. I don't know how to walk the cup so I do it all freehand......I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Fix 'em up that purdy and the guy won't ever reinstall it.
Reply:That looks great.I hope the farmer was impressed. He's probably got the fanciest irrigation fitting ever seen. Nice fix. Favorite right now is a Miller Syncro 200.Tons of tools and I blame at least one of them when things don't go right.

Reply:Thanks for the compliments. I do ALOT of irrigation pipe work for an irrigation dealer here near me, and he just called and said he had 40 joints of 6" aluminum pipe ordered that needed fittings welded on each end so it looks like I am gonna have plenty of tig practice coming up. I'll get some more pics when I start that. I think it might be time to build me a pipe roller......I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:40 joints needing both sides huh, that's enough to justify a positioner right there...lol.. new tool time !!Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:I wish I had enough to justify a positioner, but this is one of those once every 15 year deals. I have a set of stands I built with two wheels on top, and that helps. I can usually weld it and only turn it about 3 or 4 times.... This Irrigation pipe is not real critical and the "twist lock" fittings just slip over the ends and all you have to do is run one bead around it to seal it.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man...... |
