my first welding project ultra secure :-)

hay guys i tig welded my first real usable thing i bought a lockable type mailbox but whats the point of having that if you just screw it to a wooden post. so i bought a 4x4 3/16th thick metal beam and cut it up and made a nice mailbox post that go's 43 inches into the ground and 7 bags of concrete to hold it. i welded threaded rod to the base to secure the mailbox to. here it is the mailbox is 14g galvanized and is strong. and it's secured real well to my new post.thanksJason Attached Images

Reply:yea it's in there good :-) i did not have a cutting torch or chop saw i only had a pneumatic cutting wheel. so it was a 9 ft post so i only made the cuts i needed to make the front and back ends the rest went into the big hole :-) our neighborhood has had some mail theft so now i can come home and not worry about someone taking my mail. :-) they will just move onto the next easy mailbox.Jason

Reply:it looks innocent. but want to know the real sick part that is underneath it all. as if that was not enough i welded 2 bolts near the bottom so when the concrete sets there is no way in hell your pulling that post up :-) .man sometime i wonder if i should be in a sike unit :-) but in all i enjoyed making it. next project i will be making a nasty safe that will be bolted into my basement floor and will be a real b**ch to get into if you don't have a cutting torch handyJasonLast edited by RoosterBoy; 08-03-2007 at 07:27 PM.

Reply:carl your right on that's how it works im the only one with the key. i cant believe what this world is coming to i need a lawyer now to protect me from my mailbox. ill just say this people can only push others so far and if it did come to the point where someone sued me they will have to face me in court. and they better hope they don't win anything because then ill have nothing to lose. im not going to let some smart a** laugh his way to the bank on my account.I'm tired of having my mail stolen and I'm tired of bully lawyers so to all you mail thefting lawyer thugs out there i have only this to say to you   go find real work.  Jason
Reply:You stole my idea.   I got a piece of 8" round 1/4" thick steel pipe laying in my shop for when I need to build a mail box for our shop.  They like to play baseball around here with mailboxes.A buddy of mine takes the cake for taking this to the extreme.   He had in two weeks 6 mailboxes ran over.   So being a well driller, he decided to fix that problem.   Back his dig rig over to where the mailbox was.  Then drop a 20' long 8" well pipe in the ground.   Then filled it with grout.  Grabbed his welder and attached another piece of pipe on top, slaped a door on it.   A little paint.   Done. Reply:I like that how 'law enforcement' can give a ticket for having an immovable object next to the road, but the phone or power company can put up immovable poles..Thanks lawyers.  you're making our world a safer place.

Reply:Nope me neither.  My parents just had their box smashed two weeks ago.  First time in 21 years at the house I grew up in.  They live over 1/2 mile from the main road.  Kids are gettin more and more bold.  And if you did catch them there's no guarentee they'll get any kind of punishment from parents or police.  That does the kids a real disfavor, being grown up like that.  Not to mention the money and time it causes the rest of us.  Unfortunately, a sign of the times.
