Optrel E670 or E680 or Speedglas 9002X??

First, a little history....... I already have a Speedglas 9100XX but I get soot all into my goatee when I weld with it and it isn't hardhat compatible. (No, I don't get my face too close to the weld) They replaced the original cartridge which had malfunctioned and the cust service was fantastic but I need a hardhat compatible hood and have heard good things about the Optrel product but nobody around here has one for me to actually try. All opinions are welcome.Thanks, Pete
Reply:I own an Optrel. I've never been on a job that required a welding helmet to be hard hat compliant. Does that mean it can be worn with a hard hat (can't imagine a welding helmet that could) or does it mean it could take a blow and save your head like a hard hat?

It's even better now that I use the 3m 7503 half mask respirator with the P100 filters. Reply:There isn't a hardhat adapter for the 9100XX, however, there are a few options for the 9000-9002 hoods. It doesn't mean the hood can take an impact; just that the hood can be configured to work in conjunction with a hardhat
Reply:Never had to configure my Optrel with a hard hat. Don't know if it can be done or not. I wish I could remember the brand of helmets I saw at the Fabtech show, Had the hard hat, welding hood, grinding faceplate, and airfilter all in one.

Reply:Thanks Dualie, I've come to realize the same thing about that adaptor. Probably break down in a few days and order a 9002X. Just wondering if I should get the side windows, pro top system, flex view, etc.
Reply:Speedglas 9100 is hardhat adaptable, here is the part # 06-0014-00NR. Anyone who sells speedglass can order you the part.
Reply:Da####!!! Thanks for the heads up; just now seeing the this post. The 9002X flip-up is really front heavy when used with MSA hardhat, not too bad with it's original headgear. I can't say enough good things about the 9100XX. the headgear is super comfortable, 3M's cust service has been outstanding, etc.

I noticed the difference, the very first day.If it were to fit into your application, and price range, you can purchase the entire system (Minus the Lens Cartridge you already have) and then just drop in the lens from your current helmet when you are on a job where hard hats are required.I like how the PAPR works like "Air Conditioning" and keeps me cooler than if I was using one of my other helmets.Later,Jason
