I just bought a new Lincoln 305g and mounted it to my flatbed. Whenever you crank it up it will not idle down if the leads are hooked up.As soon as you disconnect the leads it will idle down no problem. The leads are brand new and I have checked for bare spots and cannot find any.Anybody got any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting from here? Thanks in advance.K.I.S.S evading the minds of engineers since the beginning of time.Lincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln Ranger 305GLincoln SP 185
Reply:Sure sounds like you're getting current leaking from somewhere. What about the mounting studs? Could 1 be cracked or shorting somehow when the lugs are tightened down?Or are you using some kind of quick disconnects? Are you using reels? Do you have a short in them somewhere?Just thinking out loud... Originally Posted by LA_BackwoodsI just bought a new Lincoln 305g and mounted it to my flatbed. Reply:Is it BRAND new, or new to you? If its brand new, you shouldn't have to trouble shoot anything. Reply:The machine is brand new out of the crate.Leads are on wraps.Leads are connected to the post via Tweco quick connects.I'm not on site so I haven't visually looked at the studs, I'll check that when they bring it in tonight.I've put a call into Lincoln and I'm waiting on a call back right now. Thanks for the replies!K.I.S.S evading the minds of engineers since the beginning of time.Lincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln Ranger 305GLincoln SP 185
Reply:Connect the leads one at a time to the welder. See if you can isolate the problem to one lead or the other. Gene
Reply:Maybe your one of your leads is shorting around the wrap bracket...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Thanks for all the suggestions. When the truck made it back to the shop I saw what the problem was, the ground clamp was hooked to the lead wrap and the weld terminals were switched hot instead of cold.As soon as I flipped the switch it kicked down to idle. I'm glad that was all it was I just knew it was going to be a bad board or something.K.I.S.S evading the minds of engineers since the beginning of time.Lincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln Ranger 305GLincoln SP 185 |
