This is what happens when you put off a simple repair and work for the rest of the day.http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...ractors014.jpghttp://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...ractors013.jpg Better than new, the bottom of the bucket will be another project for another day. http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...ractors016.jpghttp://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...ractors015.jpgDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Great job, how many sticks did that take? Tools of choice?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Nice.  Hey, I always wondered why on big repairs people do such a big weave.  Could you explain?  I was always taught to do stringers.
Reply:Thats not going anywhere fast.. Better than factory!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:you could have used stringers, but then i would have asked why didn,t you weave it .looks great especially on the curve.no dig intended welderboy .
Reply:Very nice work Tozzi.I think the stringer/weave deal is personal preference.  I personally like the look of a nice woven cap as compared to stringers, but I have friends in the business who prefer stringers, and do VERY good work.  I guess it comes down to do what you feel comfortable doing....I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:nice work Tozzi, i agree with hammack. there are 2 welders in my shop. i weld weave and he welds stringers. IMHO, my verticles look alot better than his and my muliti passes. but it's "to each his/her own"."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:My tools of choice were my 4 pound beater, the rosebud, and grinder.  I ran stringers (3/16 9018) to fill in the V, then capped it with a nice pretty weave.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Stringers will result in a more refined grain structure since each bead has a small heat affected zone, and each bead is tempered by the subsequent bead.  Very important for hardenable steels and for low temperature impact toughness.A big ole weave will have a big ole HAZ with big ole coarse grains and reduced fracture toughness.

Reply:Stringers or nothing! Weaves dont look as clean and could entrap slag. I guess he did good by doing all the beads before the cover in stringers. Nothing beats a stringer cover pass with blend ground starts and stops!
Reply:I would have done the exact same thing.  You put in more metal than was there.  I can't even see the starts and stops. Looks professional to me.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Tozzi was that a cat bucket?Reason i ask is i have seen that exact same crack on a cat bucket i repaired last summer same spot also top of bucket next to the flanges.
