Graduated from welding school and got my 6-G cert now its just a matter of finding a job in the field or going for more schooling.  I'm thinking of underwater welding but I don't know if there is an age limit.  In the mean time I can get local work but I'd like to look further into the field and have a local dive center to go to to take basic scuba to get my feet wet so to speak.
Reply:Maybe u'd be of a mind and age to go to work for Uncle Sam for a few years... He needs a few good men, U'd probably be a candidate for scuba,  the experience would be helpful? Just a thought.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:Thought of the ship yard there are many around and have good benefits. Northrop grumman is a good company to work for.

Reply:I've got all three down but I've got a ways to go with aluminum tig and and stainless tig.  I'm going to apply at Northrup Grumman and Liebherr for now but I do have an big interest in the commercial underwater diving field, call me crazy but I like the idea.  Working by feel alone has been something that I've been good at ever since I was working as a photo lab tech and had to unload film in black bags that would only allow my hands and a film can and nothing else inside.  Doing repair work and tune ups on front wheel and mid mounted v6 and v8 engines has been common for me as well and having to snake my arms around to the back side of an engine block in -5f winter weather in the dark on an old country road with no wind break and no gloves was a good learning experience on how to visualize what your touching with partially numb hands.I have patience when it comes to the work I do and with the small details, I can deal with the cold and heat though the cold is where I do my best so I'm game.  I've heard that much of the work under water is not welding so much as it is mechanical and recovery work which I have no problem with either though I do understand the significant dangers involved in diving let alone the aforementioned work.  Risks I'm used to, Ive driven truck, worked in some of the worst inner city zones in the country, been shot at twice and hit once, worked in buildings that I don't know how they were still standing and hung off the side of a 26 story high rise, ran medium and heavy equipment that could crush a man without a hiccup and I got married 4 years ago The scuba basics is to give me an idea into what is involved with diving and the local dive center has classes that go beyond maser diver and include recovery diving as well.  Taking some of the classes would give me an edge I believe when attending one of the commercial dive schools.  As for the age question I'm 40 and aside from a problem with my foot I'm in better health and condition now than I was at 20 and if I knew myself at 20 I would whoop myself for being weak and lazy as I was back then.
Reply:Here's a few commercial dive schools you can look into. The only one I've had any experience with at all is the one in Camden NJ and I've talked to several guys who went there.Commercial Diving Academy http://www.comercialdivingacademy.com Jacksonville FLGreat Lakes Diving Academy http://www.greatlakesdivingacademy.orgCommercial diving degrees in Santa Barbara CA http://www.sbcc.net/academic/mdtCollege of Oceaneering San Diego CA 1-800 432-diveDivers Academy International Camden NJ http://diversacademy.comDivers Institute of Technology Seattle WA http://www.diversinstitute.comThe Ocean Corporation, Houston TX 1-800 321-0298There's one in New Orleans or Louisiana but I can't find it right now..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
